  1. Stripping JP drains

Yes the tubing should stick together because of the suctioning. Like the nurse above stated, keep working it and it will start flowing. Matter of fact, yesterday when I started my shift my patient had a few clots in their tubing and I stripped them...
  2. As much as Florence Nightingale did for nursing, she also was a big part in setting the tone for nurses to be treated this way. She could be unmerciful to her nurses. Read some of her writings.
  3. Negativity????!!!!!!!

Where did I say anything about complaining about someone else? Or gossiping, or being catty? I am not in high school. I enjoy people who don't take themselves too seriously.
  4. What was the toughest part of Nursing school for you?

I agree with you 100%, working on those things all night then going to clinical without sleep, ugh!

Let them know you ARE a team player, Good Luck!
  6. Negativity????!!!!!!!

Why do people have to be so positive all the time, it is like, let's get real. Seriously though I think complaining is great when you make it funny. This is the kind of sense of humor I like to work with.
  7. What's your story? Why did you take up nursing?

On bad days I still wonder why I became a nurse, LOL. Seriously though, I always had a soft spot in my heart for sick/ill people since I was very young.

  10. ADN vs. BSN for Entry Level Nursing

I started off as a LPN and worked 8 years as one. Went back and got my RN-ADN and now I am looking into getting my MSN. As a LPN I did the same work as a RN in LTC but learned later on that is not the case in a hospital setting, where a RN was resp...
  11. Excelsior College

I would recommend that you get your ADN at an accreditated community college and then you could finish your BSN at Excelsior. Many hospitals here in CA will not hire nurses who get their RN training from institutions online. There is not enough cli...
  12. Main Problem In The Nursing Field?

I am a RN-ADN and I agree 100% with everything you stated, many ADNs might not like it but the truth is the truth.
  13. California patient Ratio

This is how hospitals in CA are getting around the nurse/patient-ratio law, they assign the RN 6 patients with a LVN taking one of those, but the RN is still totally responsible for that patient and must do the plan of care/assessment/treatment/evalu...
  14. Are LVNs being hired in your hospital or only RNs hired?

There are LVNs where I work, medical/surgical unit.
  15. I think that is the best question to ask yourself "Do I want to be a nurse?" Nursing in my opinion is a calling and although you may question yourself after having one of those "I can't believe I chose this profession days" you know deep down that y...
