    Hello all,
I am a 1st yr. nursing student. I need some help. We have about 28 journal articles for req. readings. I was wondering if anyone knew where you can locate these articles (not just the abstracts) Anywhere I have been on the net cost anywhere from $5.oo-$12.00 to retrieve the article. Since there are so many we need I can not afford to order them. Thanks in advance for any replies! Becky

Hi to all! I begin my clinicals in the fall. A friend of mine gave me asteth. to use or I could by it from her. This was her uncles and it is in VERY good condition. It is a Sprague steth. , 5 stethoscopes in 1. Everyone seems to like Littman's though. Should I buy the Sprague or go by a new one of my own?? What kind is the best and if I do buy the sprague how much should I pay for it?? I have done BP readings on my family w/ this steth. and still have some trouble hearing, but I am also just not used to doing BP readings. Is there a better one out there? I have the money so that is really not an issue. Thanks for any input. Becky

Hello all! We have our orientation to the nursing program in a couple of weeks. We had to send back a reservation and tell them if we were bringing a guest. I was just wondering what do they do at orientation? I plan on taking my husband with me and I hope it will give him some insight as to what is to come. I hope we just don't fill out neccesary paperwork. My husband will have to take off work to attend this with me and we don't have money to waste! If anyone thinks it would be valuable to take him along or if anyone can tell me what they do at orientation I would appreciate it. It is like 3 hours long. Just Curious!

Hello to all the nurses! I am just entering an ADN program. I spent 1yr. doing prereqs and did well. I am married and have 4 children. I am very scared and half doubting myself. Other students say I will have no social life at all. This is sad to hear b/c I don't know how I will survive if I have no other fun things in my life. I have always wanted to be a nurse. I have also heard that many marriages don't survive nur. school. My husband is supportiveand I think we can make it. I just can't believe I am already so stressed and I haven't even begun yet. I can't sleep and I feel I have to be totally organized before I begin. I hope this is just fear of the unknown. I am very caring and study hard, I really want this, so why am I doubtful 2 wks. before classes begin ??If anyone has any advise or hints to being organized I would greatly appreciate it. Not many nur. students are married w/ children, yes some are but I feel we nontraditional students have an even harder hill to climb. Just my opinion. Becky

Hello!! I'm sure you do have many ??s. So did I when I started. I go to a university and am getting an ADN. I spent my 1st year taking prereqs. A&p 1&2, chem, math, eng, ethics. In aug. I start my nursing courses and clinicals. I know this is very demanding but I am glad I spent 1 yr. taking plain old classes. It got me back in the groove of school since I have been out for 11 yrs. ( I'm 29) Good luck and take your time. If you need any help with A&P email me I loved that course and got an A in it. Have fun. asphaltfly@aol.com.

I have a problem. I took prereqs last yr. as a freshman. I am now entering the nursing program. When I took the ACT in 99 I had a low score in math. This meant I had to take remedial algebra 1 and 2. I took algebra 1 last semester. Yesterday a nursing inst. called and told me I have to take part 2 in the fallor retake the ACT. I was going to be at school and clinicals on Tue, thur, & fri. Now the math class I need is on mon, wed. My daughter is in a day care so these 2 extra days will break me and I will have to pay for at least a half day of care for only an hour of class. Since i will be at school anyway on those 2 days should I had another class, like psychology? Or will this load be too much? I don't know what I should do but I am assuming that the 1st sem. of nur. is probably the easiest so I'm thinking maybe I should take more classes this fall. If I did this it would leave me with only 1 extra class a semester to take along with my nursing courses. Help!!any comments would be appreciated. I am really kind of upset that no one told me this when I was in advising in April, but I can only hope that I can get an 18 on the math part of the ACT then I wouldnt even have to take the 2nd algebra.

Hello everyone! I am starting the nursing program in Aug. The ? I want to ask is this. If you make a care plan for a pt how do you know the nurses on other shifts will follow the plan, or do they also make care plans for the same pt? This seems confusing to me because if I have several diagnoses in order of importance who is to say another nurse may not agree with me. Who goes over these plans and what do instructors like to see in care plans? I have heard of some instructors simply ripping students care plans up right in front of them. I don't want that to happen to me! Any info would help. Thanks!!

Hello everyone ! I will be starting nursing school in the fall. I have completed most of my prereqs. I am totally terrified to begin clinicals. I am very confident about all the other parts of school. I am an A B student but frankly the more message boards for nursing that I read, the more I get scared. I know , I should not read anything ! I would love to have a nurse or another student to e-mail. I am so worried and I can't wait to start at the same time. Did any of you experienced nurses feel this way when you began. I need some reassurance. I am 29 and have wanted to be a nurse for as long as I can remember. I have 4 children and a supportive husband but still I feel anxious. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks!
