  2. Not "real nurses"

I was told by another nurse that nurses in LTC are not "real nurses" and that if I wanted to actually use any of my skills, I should work at a hospital. I haven't started working yet, but how could this even be close to true? At my local hospital, th...
  3. Job offers while still in school

Um, if you passed the NCLEX you would be in the BON registry. They don't go to the testing company. They don't see your score. You don't even get to see your score. It is pass or fail.
  4. CNA starting wage?

Here in west Texas, the going rate at all local homes is 7.50/hr. When I quit to go to school a year ago I made 7.33 with 2 years experience. 10 an hour here would be a Godsend! People with years of experience rarely ever top 9.
  5. We have a large (>90%) Hispanic population where I am. I don't speak Spanish. I really don't care about educating them to speak English as long as I can find out what's wrong. Personal beliefs about whether or not they should learn to speak Englis...
  6. Because GOD FORBID anyone who does not speak English would get sick. Since they broke the law by entering the country illegally, let's deny care to ALL law-breakers. Ran a red light? Hope that MI works itself out. Leave your politics at home
  7. CNA Forum Announcement

I'm from Texas and i am glad i attended a class at my community college. I would not attend an online CNA course if I had the opportunity. There are too many hands on things to learn. I don't know any online schools.
  8. Expectations

My CNA instructor was a CNA before she was a LVN, so she gave us a very realistic idea of what aide work would be like. When I started I at least knew what I was getting into. I have seen a lot of these threads too, but I'm not sure what to say. I sa...
  9. To those who are cna's and also going to school to be LPN

I doubt you will be able to work without sacrificing your school performance greatly. I saved up for 3 years working as a CNA so i could quit work because my husband could not work. I have been living off my saved money since August.
  10. To those who are cna's and also going to school to be LPN

I am in school now, and the two are not compatible for me. School is from 8-4 every day, and there is NO WAY i could work nights because you have to study so much. I suppose if you wanted to you could work nights or weekends, but I wouldn't recommend...
  11. Started new job and ready to quit

It seems like every few days there is another thread saying the exact same thing. I felt the same way at first. They don't do it how they we learned it in clinicals! I think if you give it a chance you will like it. I spent three months wondering why...

    Alright.
  13. use of gloves

Wow...5 or 6 glove changes! Your facility must spend a fortune in gloves! I went through a few state inspections and they didn't have anything like that. Basic hand hygiene and gloves when necessary did the trick.
  14. use of gloves

Five times? To put one patient on a bedpan? Really? Seems a little excessive.
  15. Can someone explain how to survive doing cna work

Budget carefully. When I was a CNA (haven't worked since august to go to nursing school) I knew exactly where every dollar went. I made around $800 a month. I owned my car, paid $300/mo rent, and supported my husband who could not work. I saved up fo...
