  1. In need of encouragement.

I like this -- I used to journal regularly. It is definitely cathartic. But I like the addition of the "To Do" list -- it keeps you on your toes about your weak spots, but lets you put it aside for a while. I still have year to go, but thanks for thi...
  2. The future of hand washing?

After an OB nurse bragged to me about the MRSA scar in her hand from a needle stick (my sister was her patient as she relayed the story), I have a pet peeve about hand washing. I never, not ONCE in the entire time she entered and exited the room, he...
  3. Failing and Making Decisions

Thank you! What a great idea.
  4. How to organize school stuff??

I have one -- It's basically a binder on steroids, though it's not big enough to hold everything for a semester. I keep everything that I need from test to test (we have four major ones) in the Trapper Keeper, and previous information in the big bin...
  5. burned out

Have you considered working with the developmentally disabled?
  6. Reclaiming our Profession

I find this to be the case amongst my classmates more often than not. There is not one I've come across yet who embodies the angel personna. Thank you for your well written response.
  7. Don't think I'm cut out for med/surg

Normally I wouldn't flip out like this. But the CI (new to us, 2nd rotation) has sent me to remediation. Even though she is known for this, it still freaks me out a bit. To add some insult, the patient's room had a faulty hand sanitizer and a soap...
  8. Don't think I'm cut out for med/surg

I went a little bananas the other day giving meds (PO and SubQ Lovenox) and changing a sterile dressing. I got really flustered and made a lot of mistakes, even though I prepped the night before. I can't imagine doing that for 8 patients each shift...
  9. Failing and Making Decisions

Update: I got back into the program this spring. There are 6 weeks left, and I am doing much better. I took the advice of most people and have been going over NCLEX questions quite a bit. Our textbook had quite a few, but I also purchased Saunders...
  10. Should I include work history from a LONG time ago?

In addition, I would check to see if your former employment can be verified -- many businesses only keep records for 7 years, more or less. If you've earned any additional certifications (e.g. ACLS), it would be helpful to list those as well.
  11. Failing and Making Decisions

I hear ya on not going onto the pity party tangent. I'm not one to wallow in misery for long (it's exhausting!). But what is making that difficult right now is 1) I still have to attend my support classes (although I'm almost done), and 2) everyone...
  12. Failing and Making Decisions

I failed second semester of my program. I was stunned, but not entirely surprised. It seemed that the harder I tried, the harder I studied, the more damage I did to my self-confidence. I now understand that my downfall may be in my critical thinki...
