  1. Nurse: Patient ratios

    I work in the SICU/Trauma at a Philadelphia hospital. Staffing is mostly 2:1. In order to be 1:1, the patient has to be on multiple pressors or receiving multiple blood products AND on CVVHD.

    Unless the patient is on vasopressors as well, we staff 1:2. However, the acuity of the other patient is taken into consideration when staffing.

  6. I could never, ever do Psych nursing so hats off to those who have the courage to. I worked on a very busy Med/Surg (Trauma/Ortho) floor and whenever I had a patient with a psych hx., I was emotionally and physically drained at the end of my shift.

    Monday was my first day of orientation --- I'll be working in the SICU at one of Philadelphia's major hospitals. Wish me luck! I cannot wait to begin the learning --- bring it on!!!!
