  1. Central Lines: saline or heparin?

10cc NS followed up by 5cc Heparin 100u/ml. Someone's PICC was good and blocked up the other day, IV RN got an order to put a tPA flush through it...cleared up that clot nicely.
  2. No psych for me thanks! No peds (not because of the kids but because of the parents), LTC, OR or post-partum either for that matter. I'll stick to hearts and brains thanks. Love cardio/tele and have a keen interest in neurosurg./neurology
  3. Sink or Swim/Eat Their Own

Yikes. I'm the only one so far to have a good supportive experience?? No complaints outta this girl for the floor I work on. Us new grads are welcomed with open arms and given awesome support from junior and senior staff alike. Im staying put for...
  4. Kicking my butt...

I had/have the same problem. Don't worry too much about it. I graduated the beginning of August. I did my 4month pre-grad in neurosurg. I was always coming up against new disease processes, new meds, new issues. Now I've been working on a 44 bed ...
  5. I need help for a presentation!!! Please

    http://cancerweb.ncl.ac.uk/cgi-bin/omd?query=falcine maybe that helps...?
  6. LOL. Agreed. I wear mostly solids with the occcasional low-key print. I refuse to wear white. I am a spiller. I am a spiller of food and a spiller of liquid meds. Liquid Colace has some bizzare magnetic attraction to my chest.
  7. :roll That was funny. This is a good one to differentiate our professions... Doctor's treat the disease and Nurses treat the person.
  8. What is your least favorite.....

I'm not a big fan of diabetic feet. Necrotic flesh and black toes just don't turn my crank.
  9. Anyone sick of working weekends????

I don't mind working weekends. Good staff on my floor make working weekends not too bad. Besides, I could never work a typical M-F, 9-5. I just don't work that way.
  10. A nurses poem- for those who haven't read it yet

Pretty much sums up my day at work! Minus the phone call to the kids, since I dont have any.
  11. A nurses poem- for those who haven't read it yet

Pretty much sums up my day at work!
  12. Whats your fav sleep mask?

Wow, I guess I'm lucky from what I've read here and from what I hear from co-workers on my floor. I have no problems sleeping after nights, no masks, no dark blinds. I get home at 0800 and I'm asleep by 0815 until like 1300.
  13. Safe patient load? tell me what you think

8-12 patients?! Yikes! My floor is a CVT/cardiology/tele floor at a large teaching hospital with a quick turnover rate, 44 beds and a staff of 12 RNs. We take 3-4 on days and 5-6 on nights and you're guaranteed to run all day long ( and all night f...
  14. IV starts

I didn't learn in school either. Did phlebotomy as part of my orientation. At the hospital I work at, we do our own bloodwork, but the IV team does all the starts unless you have been previously certified to do starts. I'd like to learn, but the ho...

Just finished 3.5 yr diploma at Mohawk in Hamilton. Yay for smog!
