LPN who decided that having a BSN (and hopefully an ARNP) was the way to go

  1. Can a HIV person work as a C.N.A

There should be no problem with him working as a CNA, and in fact it is illegal for his employer to even ask the question during the hiring process. The risk of transmission is extremely low and unless, as someone stated above, he is engaging in que...
  2. lpn first ?

As an LPN I usually tell everyone to just go for their RN if that is your ultimate goal. In fact the only LPN program that I encourage people to attend is the 68WM6 program that the army has, because at least it is free. In the long term you will be ...
  3. How was LPN school for you?

Absolutely, take to heart "Learn by doing". You can read and re-read a set of instructions on how to perform a procedure, but actually getting your hands dirty I have found is the best learning aid. My LPN class was a little bit different because I...
  4. Do you have to carry all your books??

I couldn't imagine bringing all of my books to class. The way our classes are taught we don't have time to open our books during lecture anyway.
  5. The Nursing Math Thread

    oops, I made a mistake
  6. need hope and direction

I certainly would not give up. If your goal is to have your RN then re-apply somewhere else and continue to pursue your goal... and if nothing else you know now what not to do, and hopefully you will not repeat the mistake twice.
  7. CA schools for LVN to RN programs, foreign programs?

I would be extremely hesitant in going overseas to get a nursing degree. In CA itself there are many LPN to RN programs, and if you look beyond state boarders there are even more. I would consider these before embarking on an overseas adventure tha...
  8. still waiting on my authorization letter from the CA Board.....

My wife, myself, and another guy graduated from the Army's LPN program back in 2000. We waited SIX MONTHS!!! The BVNPT, IMHO is staffed by idiots. What happened was that the millitary didn't stamp our paperwork, so it sat on someones desk. I lived in...
  9. The reality for LPN/LVN for a new graduate

Long term psych requires little experience, acute psych will usually require some experience (depending where you work). The prison system isn't bad I've heard. I believe (it's been a while since I looked into this) that if your work in the prison sy...
  10. Any LVN graduate here! and where you working?

I am an LPN working on my RN. I worked a variety of areas before getting back into school: Psych (long term and acute, both inpatient), an Internal Medicine Clinic, when I was mobilized I worked in an immunization clinic and for an optometrist, and f...
  11. GA Nursing Roll Call

My name is Jason. My family moved to GA due to a military re-assignment (wife is an Army nurse). I am an LPN, but decided to hang up that hat for a while so I could pursue my RN (currently a student @ MCG)
  12. When I applied to RN programs here in GA (at least here in Augusta) the impression that I got was that as a male you definitely had a leg up on the competition. Don't get me wrong, I was very competitive with my prereqs, but I was straight up told t...
  13. Why are male nurses looked down on?

The only area that I was "looked down on" was when I did a stint in antepartum when I was mobilized... and this was more from the pt's and family i.e. either the mother didn't want a male there or the father didn't. I never took it personally, and j...
  14. LPN TO RN programs in GA area

I know Augusta State University will allow you to test out of some of their courses, but they are switching to a BSN program next year (2009 school year).
