  1. CNM giving up practicing...for now

Mommy2boys, never fear that you are raining on anyone's parade. I truly admire your integrity. I hope that, as you say, if the way "everyone else" is doing it isn't working, then I'll be able to find a way to make it work, somehow... You are one smar...
  2. Frontier or Stony Brook?

I'm a CNEP grad (CNM program at Frontier) and also just completed the CNM to WHNP program thru Frontier. (as in, just two days ago, yay!) I do think that Frontier has a well deserved reputation for high quality education, and you will find that aroun...
  3. CNM giving up practicing...for now

I think I know you. Do I know you? I am on the verge of joining a practice that exactly fits your description... Are you in the Midwest, Northeast IN/Northwest OH? Regardless, it sounds as though you really did genuinely try and this position, at lea...
  4. What's the weirdest baby name?

I think the car brand Mercedes was actually named after someone's daughter Mercedes. It's a pretty common Spanish name! according to Wikipedia, yup, named after a daughter: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes_(car) ok, can't fix the link for some r...
  5. Keep my patients out of the hospital!

thank you cookie. the COPD gentleman, who I'd seen on Friday and who went in yesterday, had an appointment scheduled to see his pulmonologist on Monday! I will try to shift my mindset to lengthening their times at home.
  6. Keep my patients out of the hospital!

It seems as though all of my patients are winding up in the hospital! I'm newer to home health, it's been about 5 months; I've been a nurse for over 4 years. I am case managing under supervision. In the past two weeks, I've had one stroke recurrence...
  7. What's the weirdest baby name?

actually, looking back on this thread, these are actually very common names, i'm surprised you've never heard of them.
  8. Young female patients

:yeahthat: it's a therapeutic relationship, not a typical social relationship, and so some things go one way only.
  9. How often should someone get a TB test?

If you just had your test administered today, you might have a little redness and raised area until the irritation from the injection subsides. What they look for is induration (hard and lumpy) at 48 to 72 hours. They don't look at it before 48 hours...
  10. Young female patients

The OP's situation has not much to do with the male clinician, and a whole lot to do with the emotional state of the female adolescent patient. Adolescents are often extremely self-conscious of having private areas of the body exposed, and of sexuali...
  11. "Caught" my first baby!!

Awesome! Congrats on your first "catch!"
  12. cytotec question

You're right, I wouldn't put oxygen on if the FHR was reactive. The mask is a tangible reminder to mom that all is not well right now, and can increase her stress level, which certainly doesn't help!
  13. cytotec question

This is why I hate cytotec. I'd do your standards for intrauterine resuscitation - turn onto left side, oxygen (unless FHR is fabulously reactive), IVF bolus if no contra-indications. If no accels and decreased variability, I'd call the doc again an...
  14. Ugh! Delivered Baby On My Own The Other Day...

It sounds like you did everything exactly right. Laboring down is for when the epidural is effective, not for when some poor mom is miserable from being told not to push. And since he got there in time for the 1 min apgar, well, I'd take that timing ...
  15. really bad IV skills...suggestion?

This was key for me; I used to blow veins all the time from getting the tip of the needle in, seeing my flash, and then trying to thread the cannula without pushing the needle in just a little tiny bit more. The whole bevel did not go in, and then th...
