  1. Brian Short News

As a long-time AN member, and now retired Nurse (46 years), I was shocked and dismayed to learn of the deaths of the Brian Short family. Brian made this site and Nurses world-side have benefited from it. I don't do FB or twitter or any of the other s...
  2. "The Good Ol' Days!"

    1. Finger cots (they looked like tiny condoms) for suppositories or rectal checks, including digitally removing fecal impactions (Nurse's job.) 2. Gloves were only for sterile dressing changes, surgery or delivery. 3. Only Doctors were allowed to do...
  3. 24/7 Video Cameras in ICU rooms

I WISH St. Joseph Hospital in Denver had video cameras. When I was visiting my ex-husband on the cardiology unit, both my wallet and his were stolen out of his room while we were out in the hallway for his 5 minute walk. It HAD to have been an empl...
  4. The link to the heroic stories didn't work.
  5. A long time ago, I was on a flight where they called for "Any Doctors or Nurses on board"... I hesitantly raised my hand, and was the only one who did. I performed compressions while a flight attendant did mouth-to-mouth. We saved the patient, and Un...
  6. It pays to be a nurse.

I have had 2 police officers as patients...both told me they NEVER give tickets to Nurses because they never know when they will need one. Apparently the cop who gave me a ticket (yes, I was in speeding...I was going to be late for work) didn't think...
  7. Please use some common sense on Facebook.

I don't have a facebook account and refuse to have one. I've seen too many "friends" (including FAMILY) get in trouble or cause trouble on it. My daughter caused domestic problems for my son when answering a post on a wall (WHATEVER that means...) fr...
  8. Lazy Aides I have worked with..and my answer to it

My entire career (over 40 years) I have worked Agency. Most of that time, I worked LTC, Nursing homes, Group homes, Alzheimer's Units, Psych wards. Where the residents/patients/clients LIVE in the facility. Not "in & out" like in hospitals. Our f...
  9. EEK! There's a woman in my room!

  10. Stool sample for Micro class?????

Sounds like something off a chinese menu:D
  11. What's Your Best Nursing Ghost Story?

Some call them "ghosts"... I prefer to think of them as "angels".
  12. Certified Medication Technician

You live in hospital la-la land. What applies there, does not apply to long term care. Try working a Nursing Home to see what the "real world" of long term care is.
  13. Certified Medication Technician

This is an old thread, which I wrote my opinion in 3 years ago. I will repeat it now to the folks who have just found it. CMAs in LTC are indispensible. Nurses in LTC cannot do it all for 100+ patients.
  14. HOw To Start YOur Own Business

Wow...my business has been supporting me for 5 years now! I guess I can consider it a success. I'm still working as much as I want, but as I'm aging...one or 2 shifts a week is all I want, and it still pays my bills :nuke:
  15. EEK! There's a woman in my room!

I am old nurse...started my training in 1967...one of my instructors was an old Navy Nurse...she began her Nursing career serving in WWII. She instructed us, with a big wink, that thumping was the "cure" for unsolicited erections. I never in my almos...
