  1. Tattoos

I'm a Capt in the AF. I have half sleeves on both arms. The AFI states that no more than 25% of the EXPOSED extremity may be tattooed. I work with both RNs and technicians that have tattoos on their forearms, their calves, their wrists, etc. Lots of ...
  2. wtbcrna is right, AMS is waaayyy out of date, but I looked just for kicks. I was able to pull up positions open at Landshtul but got no returns when I looked up Tripler. Not sure what the Navy hospital there is called, but if you let me know I can lo...
  3. Nope I sure haven't, but if it's available I'm putting it on my next ADP! :) I can check the AMS when I get back to work and see if the AF shows anything there.
  4. Air Force to cut 2,300 officers

Personally, I'm more worried about them cutting the NC loan repayment and ISP retention bonuses. I'll be taking what I can get before they drop those programs.
  5. Best Air Force Base Hospital

Brand spankin' new hospital and it's really, really nice. Bad news for the ER though because they are in the old building. Everything else moved to the new hospital except the lab and the ER. It's a strange set-up with very poor planning to say the l...
  6. I don't know about HI specifically, but AF RNs do work at ARMY hospitals. I work OB and I've known several RNs and MDs who worked at Landstuhl.
  7. Air Force to cut 2,300 officers

MSC is different from the NC and like wtbcrna, I have not heard of any NC cuts.
  8. Best Air Force Base Hospital

I'll add my input about Langley. It's a brand new hospital and it's been expanding its ER and ICU. The L&D is the busiest in the ACC and second busiest in the AF. If you are going in as med-surg I would suggest not requesting Langley. It was goin...
  9. AF alternate list updates

We do this at work when we are slow. We call it "power hour". Every hour on the hour we do push-ups, sit-ups, squats, whatever it takes. Doesn't seem like it would do much, but nearing the end of a 12 hour shift we are usually trying to find ways to ...
  10. AF alternate list updates

Let me tell you, it was VERY hard for me to get motivated to get back into shape. I knew that going to COT would be a lot harder if I wasn't in shape when I got there and that was the only thing that got me out there and running. I started out doing ...
  11. AF alternate list updates

Just my opinion here....don't wait! Get started now. You may have a long wait, but if you are up to standards long before you commission then you won't have to worry about failing your test. I'm watching people try to skate by with the minimum and it...
  12. MED/SURG v.s OB for AF Nursing?

I'm not sure but it's a desk job. It's not ideal for those in a clinical track to get transferred to that type of job early in your career. I think it was at her request for personal reasons but I'm not sure. Needless to say, being removed from the c...
  13. MED/SURG v.s OB for AF Nursing?

I've heard of some people getting their Adult Health CNS but targeting their clinical rotations toward perinatal. That way they get their CNS and have experience in perinatal. So confusing and frustrating! I LOVED Langley! I was a preceptor for new R...
  14. MED/SURG v.s OB for AF Nursing?

Deployments are done by "bands" now. Every 18 months your assigned band comes up for deployment and if you are tasked to deploy then you go for 6 months. You can deploy outside your band too if you volunteer but it rarely happens, at least from my ex...
  15. Future Air Force nurse here with lots of questions!

The top two are Wilford Hall in San Antonio and Langley in Virginia. I would choose Langley over Wilford Hall because there aren't any residents at Langely and you get much more hands on experience.
