  1. Can Addiction be "Cured"

Re: Can Addiction be "Cured" "The fact that Lortab gave you 'energy' is a big redflag to me. Most likely that is because it deadened your psychic pain. Lortab isn't exactly a stimulant." One of the side effects of narcotics is euphoria which feels st...
  2. Oh no! please...please not that

It's vomit and mucus/phlegm for me. Blood and guts are ok but vomit and phlegm.
  3. Help me understand Med Aides

I don't pass meds under your nursing license. That is a myth.
  4. Help me understand Med Aides

It all depends on the med aide. I work with a lot of LPNs. They may have more nursing education than I do, but, let me tell you, many of them are not particularly educated or smart. I have close to a BS in psychology and sociology and I am smart. ...
  5. Hateful LTC Staff...How Should I deal With It?

I am a med tech at a LTC. I took the Hospice Volunteer course 3 years ago just to learn more about hospice. I absolutely love what they are doing and would work there in a heartbeat if they had a better salary and benefits. I wish all LTC workers ...
  6. Hateful LTC Staff...How Should I deal With It?

How awful for you! I work in an LTC facility and we love hospice!
  7. Best places to buy uniforms?

I like Tafford and Dickies. Both brands are made of good quality material. Warning: Tafford runs large. I prefer mostly solids and usually wear coordinating jacket, pants and top. I've been told by many patients that I dress professionally and th...
  8. how much time for AM med pass?

I know that there is a lot of prejudice against med techs. I am one and my understanding is that we work in LTC, never hospitals, where meds change frequently and the patients are more acute and changeable. My med error rate is below some of the n...
  9. how much time for AM med pass?

I am a med aide in LTC. My HS pass for 40 to 55 residents usually takes me about 3 hours to 3 1/2 hours. I don't do dressing changes or insulins--just pills (many of which have to be crushed and mixed in applesauce or pudding, eye drops and liquid...
  10. "At the hospital I'm at now, its so nice to help people feel better quickly since pain is usually what finally drags people to see us. And I could care less if I'm giving pain meds to a "drug seeker"; addiction is an illness and we can't fix it in th...
  11. Substance abusers disillusion me...

"When an addict is hurling profanities and being highly abusive towards healthcare workers, it's hard to have sympathy for them. Nurses are people too, not really angels. I get tired of being expected to be an ascended benevolent being that never jud...
  12. Substance abusers disillusion me...

Amen! It is so discouraging to become aware of the judgmental attitudes. I've dealt with this all my life and have struggled mightily. Most addicts are self-medicating and definitely don't want to be in the situation that they are in.
  13. What do I do now? I am so crushed!!

I am so sorry if I seem to be blunt--but well, I am! Anyone who chooses to go to nursing school without experience as a CNA is a fool. What CNAs do now is what nurses used to do and are still required to do in some settings. How in the world can y...
