  1. Anyone use Micro Preemie Pampers?

I totally agree!! They were so flimsy and really didn't hold alot of urine. I love the micro pampers. They seem to fit better and hold more.
  2. Working x# of shifts in a row ...

I've worked either 8 or 9 in a row...all 12hr shifts. About half of it was overtime. We were really busy and I'm one to always sign up to work extra. I don't mind it, especially when you get into a groove. Once i'm past the 4th day, it gets easier. I...
  3. Schedules

We self schedule ourselves. Right now, we just put our self schedules in the book for the month of October. But then the final schedule for that particular schedule will be posted about 2 wks before it begins. So we have plently of time to schedule v...
  4. Any Gordon Students Out There??

I also worked Friday and Saturday nights 11p-7a in a hospital in the unit in which I continue to work now. By working there during school, I gained alot of knowledge that helped me when it came to orienting me. Clinicals never conflicted with my work...
  5. Baby born without nipples?!

It would be interesting to see if he really doesn't have nipples.
  6. Baby born without nipples?!

A 3 lb baby DOES have nipples and you can see them. A 500 gm baby has nipples that you can see as well. I've never seen a case of athelia before, either. But then again, I just saw my first case of Potter's Syndrome the other day. It was very sad:o
  7. Any Gordon Students Out There??

If I remember correctly, clinicals were either on Thursdays or Fridays. I know classes were on at least Mondays and Wednesdays, maybe on Tuesdays. But that was in 1999. Things may have changed. I hope this helps. I do remember working on Friday night...
  8. Any Gordon Students Out There??

Good Luck!!! I graduated from Gordon in 1999 and it was a hard program but well worth it!! So good luck and don't let them(professors) scare you off. If nursing is what your meant to do, you'll figure it out. I always found studying with people helpf...
  9. Filter Needles & Vitamin-K IM injections

Yes, we always use a filter needle to draw up anything from an ampule. Then replace the filter needle with the correct needle we will use for the injection.
  10. Hey there...first off...good luck in nursing school!!! I graduated in 1999 and I'm still in my first job out of school. I knew that NICU is where I belonged and I still love it today. I know that one day, I'll probably leave but only to go to another...
  11. Nursing and tattoos

I have one..it's on my lower back. It's a purple flower with a vine coming off of it on both sides. It's about 8 inches long. And I absolutely love it. I want to get another one. I'm thinking either on the inside of my left wrist or on the top of my ...
  12. Floating policy?

We float to mother/baby and NBN. But perdiems float first. Then we have a rotation list between full time and part-time staff.
  13. Heelsticks vs. Venepuncture

We usually do the same. If it's just one lab or two, we do heelstick. If we need a blood culture or numerous labs, we do an arterial stick. We usually only stick venous if that is our last resort. We try to save our veins for IV's.
  14. To Filter or Not to Filter

We filter TPN and and medications, expect any blood product, Ampho B, or Sando. We NEVER filter lipids.
  15. Does This Send the Wrong Message?

I totally agree with you. And it does seem really political. And you know that there will be some parent out there that sees this and completely thinks its ok that their baby be born at this age. Just like the baby born in Miami that is supposedly 21...
