  1. Cultural sensitivity project atheism

If you wear a crucifix, put it under your shirt (personally I think ANY religious symbols should be hidden from ANY patient) Don't say things like God bless you, you're in my prayers, etc. Remove the Gideon's bible from the room Be careful when wishi...
  2. nursing shortage

personally, i'd rather work with 2 nurses who could meet those "difficult" requirements than 15 who couldn't. nurses are responsible for people's lives! how comfortable would you be with your pcp if you found out s/he flunked out of med school thre...
  3. how bad is this one????

That's why I love military time! Color coding times are a recipe for disaster IMO. Can't comment on how bad a mistake it is, but I would hope (think) that if it were a once daily type med, shouldn't be too bad.
  4. Questionable test questions..any input

my understanding of this is health behavior as her belief is that hospitals kill ppl, her attitude isn't focused on her illness killing her or any other aspect of her illness she may even veiw her illness as trivial and non life threatening, her heal...
  5. Could you tell me about your sceduale?

    M and W 2 - 4 General Lecture (all students) T and Th 7 - 12 Clinical (10 students) F 10 - 12 Small Assembly (in-depth topics r/t the General Lecture... classes of about 20) Semesters 1 and 2 are 8 credits each and 3 and 4 are 9 credits with a 2 hour...
  6. Nursing school exams vs. NCLEX

Our school uses questions taken out of various NCLEX review books... since we have a 99% pass rate on the NCLEX I guess it works! I'm sorry that your school isn't preparing you the right way. I know you probably have a TON on your plate, but you ma...
  7. Nursing Students... Did you take....

I didn't take terminology, but only because I have a pretty good background in the medical field. Even though it wasn't something I did, I would definitely recommend it for everyone... having some terminology helps with A and P too!
  8. Right to die vs. right to live

Toughy! Please note that these are my personal opinions and not my professional ones: On a personal level, I am a big proponent of assisted suicide for the terminally ill, yet as a Nurse (student) I am not "allowed" to follow that train of thought. ...
  9. Can nurses wear skirts?

OK I just gotta ask...and it's a dumb question, but what do they make the guys wear? Always kinda wondered that from the era of caps.
  10. Feedback PLEASE- Nursing diagnosis Prioritizations

I know that for my school our instructors want us to stay away from "risk for" diagnoses. Their rationale is that most clients are at risk for whole bunches of fun stuff and that if we focus on providing good care and addressing their actual ND's, i...
  11. H.S. student looking for some help

I second that. Organic chem is a great precursor for nursing.
  12. Should I or shouldn't I

It depends on how you want to look at it. You'll be getting paid and you'll be learning and implementing many of the skills you get through nursing school. It'll get your foot in the door like you said and it may just give you a new-found appreciat...
  13. what do CNA's do in a hospital?

Perhaps it depends on the state? I'm a tech/nursing student and as long as I've had the skill in class or lab, the nurse's have me do it. Granted, the hospital I work at is "OUR" hospital (literally 3 blocks from the college).
  14. I saw my first patient that died today...

Doing postmortem care was never a problem for me. While I'm not religious, I do believe that dying usually ends a person's suffering and I'm honored to be able to be with them at that moment (ok, re-reading that sounds like I'm killing them.. but yo...
  15. Male nursing students can do assessments on the women?

I'm a second year student and have yet to be told by anyone that I can't assist or view something. My first day in OB I assisted with a vaginal birth. It's just a given that as male nursing students (in my program at least) get to experience everyt...
