  1. how to pay for CRNA school!?...Help!!

The maximum amount to borrow from the government is $18,500 per year. Then your school has to approve a certain amount for living expenses. For instance my tuition, etc was $11,120 for the past year. The approved amount for living expenses was $14,808...
  2. My Job Hunt

congrats Kevin. I am in awe of the welcome you got. Is the norm to be courted like that by hospitals seeking CRNA's? I was in the staff meeting in the OR this am and the staffing shortage was the major issue of the day...can't get enough anesthestis...
  3. Shadowing CRNA

IMHO, I don't know exactly what your assignment includes, but here are some of the things I would do for a self-directed class. You can visit the AANA website and write an informative paper/presentation if possible, explaining the job of the CRNA. If...
  4. Good News and THANKS

congratulations..you are in for the ride of your life!!!!
  5. Decisions, Decisions....

I think the quickest route is the best one. The drive will be bad but if you use time management skills, you can do it. Do you have someone you can carpool with?? That might make it more bareable.
  6. got interviews???

    congrats
  7. Thru program w/ children

I can't give personal experience in this area, but I have observed some of my classmates dealing with the stress of families while in school. Many people in our class have children and make it work. We started school May 2001. One woman had a baby De...
  8. New Baby!!!

congratulations. I am completely envious of having a beautiful baby in the home. Dh and I have 20 months until we will start trying. God bless you and mom and Hannah.
  9. I worked in northern Alabama and was never compensated for working in the ICU, ACLS, or having a BSN as opposed to ADN. I believe critical care nursing is a very advanced position, but is not compensated as such. It is a shame, but does not seem to ...
  10. Do you ever miss?

I have a sick love of starting IV's. As much as the pt might lose some confidence in you (although I don't think that very likely) you can also boost their confidence by getting the hard stick. Many people are used to being stuck a dozen times by med...
  11. What are the requirements to sit for the CRNA exam??

I am not sure which program our school is considering using for logging cases via the web, but we were asked what our opinion of the idea is. It is about $60 per student for the entire program. I think we will start it in Jan after the required numbe...
  12. humor me fellas

IMHO, if you know the answer to the questions, give the answers in an intelligent manner. And if you don't know the answer to any question, give the fine answer Kevin provided.
  13. Books???

Love the Jaffe book. I wouldn't be able to do care plans without it since I have such limited knowledge of specific surgeries.
  14. Crna Duties???

I agree that this is a great idea. One misconception I had before entering CRNA school was that "getting in is the hard part" Of course, prior to entering, getting in was the hard part, but that statement is not true. I don't think RN's realize how ...
  15. Q&A MAC calculations

we learned surgical MAC (ED95) is 1.2-1.4MAC, but concentration depends on the agent of course. and with intubation, we were taught that MAC-bar (blocking adrenergic response to intubation) is 1.5MAC (but that is supposedly barring response for 99%-1...
