  1. FNP CERT EXAM

Test also changed content on March 1st. Be sure to review the revised framework on the ANCC site.
  2. Cardiac Markers and stress test

Questions to consider asking.... Were there any ST/T wave changes during her pain episode? Any arrhythmias? What type of "stress test"? Chemical, non-chemical, which chemical? If she can't finish the test secondary to same, and excluding any mention ...
  3. Carpuject!?

No air. Air = screwed in tube closure device unscrews and flies across the room, with your med. I learned that quickly while giving IVP meds in nursing school. We have carpujects, but not many use them.
  4. Shands @ UF Gainesville

I don't work at Shands. However, they hire plenty of new graduate nurses each cycle. Many of the ICUs are staffed with new grads (neuro, for example, comes to mind). I actually find that a bit interesting that they have so many new nurses in high acu...
  5. Lowest H/H I ever saw...

Hgb 2.1/9.0. Pt who hadn't been to a doctor in 40 years walked into the ER secondary to weakness (I'll bet). Did a cardiac work up, had an EF of 10 - 15%. Infused with multiple PRBCs, diagnosed with suspected colon cancer. Just shows you how gradual ...
  6. UF Nursing Students / Alumni: Q&A

I graduated in 2008 from UF's ABSN. The program does a moderate job of preparing you for nursing, but requires you to put in quite a bit of effort. The instructors are a mix of amazing professors (David Derrico) and some that are pretty mediocre. I p...
  7. applicants to University of Florida?

I'm currently in the masters program if you have questions.
  8. did UF cancel rn-bsn

The last ASN to BSN class was Spring 2008. There were only a handful of students - I want to say between 8 and 11. It just wasn't a financially viable program.
  9. *Weird* Patient Allergies

Favorite allergies? Pt was allegedly allergic to cookies (all types). I actually had to write that on the chart. Had a mental image of bringing in some chips ahoy into the room and seeing if hives emerged.
  10. Rant/question about NCLEX

    1. You are an accelerated BSN student at UF? So was I, last year. 2. Took the NCLEX two weeks after receiving my letter to test, even though I submitted my application one week late - took the test on 7/28/08. Got my results the next day, passed with...
  11. engraved stethoscope

The bell. My master cardiology went missing when I left it on the table during report (something I never do, but did just once). I paid a ransom for its return and immediately had the bell engraved, as the tubing was previously etched. The tubing etc...
  12. What about PA school?

I completed an accelerated BSN and am currently in NP school. In hindsight, perhaps the PA route would have been better, although my local school required medical experience for 2 years to be a competitive applicant.
  13. Need Advice About Hca Hospitals In Florida

I will be the one to be contrary, but I work at a Florida HCA facility and love it. We're small enough to know almost everyone, and our staffing ratios are average. Also, the for-profit/non-profit tends to be a myth. Google for/non profit hospitals a...
  14. Those SATAs got me

I took the NCLEX RN on Monday - 75 questions, mostly SATA...and Passed! So I am a proponent that many SATA's are good thing.
  15. 21 SATA questions on my NCLEX!

I just finished the NCLEX. It shut off at 75 and over 85% of my questions were SATA. I had one math problem, maybe 10 or less multiple choice. I, too, am scared and really hoping that the SATA were a good sign.
