About Nurse Malone

Nurse Malone has 12 years experience and specializes in Ambulatory and Emergency medicine.

I'm a US Naval veteran and the wife of a Navy Chief. I have a total of 5 children and two beautiful granddaughters. I'm almost finished with my BSN, set to graduate in 2017. After graduation I hope to continue my education and become a FNP-C where I wish to work with the military members and their families, especially those of the Wounded Warrior and Navy Safe Harbor populations.

  6. Nurses with pedometers - How far do you walk?

Unfortunately I'm just a full-time student, but believed in using my pedometer (Samsung) on my phone. I realized one day while at an appointment with my husband that his fitbit logged WAY MORE steps than my phone did, which caused me to get on the "...
  7. What did you do before nursing?

I'm currently a nursing student, but have been an LPN for about four years. Before that I was a Case Manager reviewing health records for military members being medically retired or separated from the military. Before that I was a Medical Records C...
  8. Your worst nightmare

The scenario occurred more than a decade ago in an overseas setting. It is not typical. Today ECGs are automatically uploaded to the EMR and there is an audit trail for every addition, change or deletion to the medical record so extremely unlikely to...
  9. Your worst nightmare

Wow, I would consider this a nightmare as well & thankful that it all worked out for your friend. This does however raise the question of whether or not one should work with a temp or contracting agency. I'm supposed to be starting with a local g...
  10. You should know better

LOL! I like this post & responses!!! Well I don't drink or smoke, though I have my days when I find myself gorging on sweets - especially chocolates! I forget to take my Lasix (VIS) & I'm not too quick to sit down & get off my legs when...

Thanks everyone for the information, I really appreciate your feedback. My mentor had told me she worked as a RN for a year before she started working on her FNP & continued working as well. She said it helped her better understand her patients a...
  12. Nursing School and Being a parent?

Yes ma'am, Superwoman, that's our other title, lol! That was just LPN school, now that I'm an RN student I've kept the same things I learned the last time & I'm in bed by 10pm now. I've done well on school thus far & will be starting my clini...
  13. Nursing School and Being a parent?

It's definitely doable. Stressful yes, but definitely doable and rewarding! Have a great support system/team. My husband deployed quite a few times so I had the help of my Pastor, friends, and emails/phone calls from my husband. He even helped with m...
  14. I Hate People (my rant)

I am actually an introvert when it comes to people outside my comfort zone, however when it comes to my job, I LOVE NURSING AND PEOPLE, no matter who (or what) they are. 8 can see someone on the street and see they're in need of help, all fears are o...
  15. Clarification please

Thank you for the clarification. I didn't know that there was no such thing as a NCLEX-NP; but there is a licensure or certification exam, correct? Is there a certain amount of time I should work as a RN before I start an advanced practice FNP progra...
