  1. My husband wakes me up!

THIS. I'm a big fan of the vacuuming at 2 AM idea. Or mowing the lawn. Or playing the piano. :-)
  2. What's your best 'Nurse Hack'?

You can also empty JP drains in to a urine specimen cup to easily determine small amounts.
  3. Day shift or night shift - Which do you prefer? Why?

I work nights right now. The extra money is nice and I LOVE not having management there, but I'm also a student and end up frequently having to go to class after working 1845-0715 which sucks. It's also hard being on the opposite schedule of my famil...
  4. CNA Student Need Advice

CNA is pretty easy. You should be fine to take other classes alongside it. It's great that you and your wife are taking classes together - mini study group right there :-)
  5. CNA or EMT

To echo what others have said, don't let your EMT certification/license expire! I'm an EMT myself and I know how much work it takes, plus it does look really good on a resume. As far as working as a CNA or an EMT, do you like being an EMT? I am also ...
  6. File this one under "things I think but won't say"...

When a completely alert and oriented patient rings because they want the head of their bed adjusted. What I wish I could say: "Are you kidding me?!" What I actually say: "These buttons right here on the inside of the bed rail are for you to adjust ...
  7. 1/16 What I learned this week: Siamese Twins be Pimpin'

What I learned this week: 1. Being awake for 51 hours, with 4.25 hours of naps really sucks, and I hope I don't have to do it again for a long time. Unfortunately, with school starting back up plus working nights it may happen again sooner rather tha...
  8. Help with shoes

I've never worn Nikes, but I LOVE my Saucony sneakers.
  9. Night Nursing: Precepting & Perception

Um… from where did you get your perception of what night shifts are like? I work nights (CNA) and boy would I be happy if patients would actually sleep! I am busy all night long. The nurses are always busy too. Giving meds, doing assessments, IVs, ...
  10. Clothes that fit the Job

At my hospital, we're color coded. Apparently it's so patients can more easily identify who's RN, CNA, RT, etc although I'm not sure it helps all that much. I like not having to decide what color to wear but it does get boring wearing the same thing ...
  11. Should I stick with nursing

Have you considered going for paramedicine? I am doing pre-reqs for nursing, working in a hospital as a CNA (on med-surg) and am an EMT-B on the side doing volunteer EMS in my small town. Lately I've been considering switching to paramedic because I'...
  12. current CNA pay 2015

I'm in Maine. Been a CNA for 5 months. I work at a hospital and make $10.50/hour base pay, and I get a decent differential for night shift. In the area, I know of nursing homes starting CNAs anywhere from $8.75 to $14.
  13. CNA/nursing student here… This week I learned that I really like night shift!
  14. Wearing skirts as a nurse

That is a great idea, thank you!
  15. why do many MAs and CNAs call themselves nurses?

I am a CNA, and I would NEVER call myself a nurse. They are not even close to the same thing.
