how do you organize your day, do you use your own paper layout?? im trying to figure out the best format or template to use for mutiple areas of nursing since i float alot , would it be better to change templates according to area discpline ie .. going from stepdown, to neuro or is there a universal template that works for all ?? let me know...adventure hunter

A good brain helps..see what other nurses use then adapt your own espically going to different units.:wink2:

Ask someone on the unit your on, most units will have "adopted" one that they have avaliable for anyone to use, not that everyone does. And, you can ask anyone and EVERYone you work with for their "cheat" sheets. that is exaclty what i did. you know what you can do to? this site is amazing, do a search on this site specifically and word it a few different ways, there are a bunch of sheets others have posted. you work with a few on different days and you will find what works for you and eventually use one of theirs or make your own out of them all.

adventurehunter, i would be more than happy to send you my "brain" if you'd like to get me your email. i am on a m/s unit right now. the sheet i use is a legal size sheet that accommodates 5 patients.

LuvofNursing - Can you send me your worksheet too? I have been reading allnurses.com for about 3 years now (during nursing school) but this is my first post. I just started a new job (my first real nursing job) in Med/Surg and really need to get my day organized. How can I send you my email addy?

how I organize my day, is of course you need your brain, our worksheets are custom; and I use every single column in it. Its important to remember that u have to use it, and decipline yourself to use it, or else you wont and then end you'll end up missing on stuff that must be followed up on. I staple all my brains together and for the first page I use a regular clean sheet of paper and make 6 columns with my room numbers listed on each box (i figured this is good because if you leave it anywhere you won't be directly violating hippa since your sheets are covered) but I also use this sheet for putting my new orders that are received and tasks that I have to do when I go into the room the next time. Its all about multitasking-if you can master that-u can do anything in this job. good luck

I am a new grade on a med/surgical unit. Please help me get organized. How can I send you my email so I can get your cheat sheet, I need your brains to work on this floor.

thank you

Sweety

LuvofNursing, if you are still responding to this thread, and would share your organizational methods with me too, I would appreciate it. i am a new graduate (2010).

Thanks-a-bunch!

LuvofNursing,

Could you please send me the sheet? I am a new grad and feel overwhelming now

Thanks a lot

LuvofNursing,

I just started on a MedSurg floor last week, first job and I would love to get a copy of your cheat sheet.

Thank you in advance.

My "brain" sheet changes with each shift lol. I have an adopted template that I use that I got from a fellow coworker who got those from a previous hospital. I also just use a plain piece of paper folded "hot-dog style" so that I have 4 columns. Each patient gets a column and a little more than halfway towards the bottom I draw a straight line across the entire sheet, then below that I draw another straight line so that I have 2 boxes. In those boxes I put medications/times, treatments and lab tests. This seems to work better for me than using a pre-established template, but like I said, I'm still experimenting with different "brains" :D
