I know I have asked this before, but people change so fast on here I thought I would see what the response was like in 2006.

So, if you don't mind

1. How much to you make as MDS Co (or if you're a DON/ADON - how much is your MDS person paid). I make $21/Hr and thinking that is not enough!

2. What part of the country do you live in. I live in Indiana.

3. How much experience do you have w/ MDS. I have 6+ years.

Thank You

Nascar Nurse

I currently work in a hospital setting and have only been licensed a year now, but on Wednesday I am interviewing for a RN NUrse Manager job at a Sub Acute Rehab/ LTC facililty which will start me at $67,000 a year, which I have calculated at $34.89 an hour. I am making 62,000 a year now. I hope and pray I get this job, which will involve alot of MDS and PRI stuff, and they will train me.

Ok I can't answer the question on wages but could you please tell me exactly what your job as the mds ccordinator entails? I am interviewing for the position next week and I really want to go into the interview with some knowledge of the position since I lack experience. I am interested in this work because although I love being a nurse I just want to do something that has more set hours no shift work and I love doing paperwork I have thought about management but I have no experience there either nor do I have a 4 year degree I hope to go back to school in the fall and do online courses but as long as my hours are so screwy I don't know if I will be able to fit it in any help on the job description would be greatly appreciated

$67,000 per year works out to $32.21 per hour, assuming a 40 hour work week.

Specializes in orthopedics, geriatrics.

I just left a position as ADON of a LTC in Virginia where the MDS Coordinator ws a LPN who made $26.00. I happened to have the CRNAC and would sign behind what this department did each week. I feel that she was overpaid especially since, I as the ADON did not make much more than she did. I hope this helps.

Hi all,

I'm an LPN from Maine. Here LPN's are not allowed to do MDS. I had started to help our MDS co-ordinator in our LTC facility and had to stop. The State stated it was an "assessment" and could not be performed by an LPN. Has anyone else experienced this with the MDS? Our MDS nurse is retiring in a few years and so I've decided to go back to school for my RN. Not a choice I wanted. I am perfectly happy as an LPN, but in order to take over I need the RN behind my name.

Anyone can complete the individual sections of the MDS. The R block (overall signature) has to be signed by an RN, as does the V page. I worked with an LPN MDS coordinator. She did everything except the signature. Any RN can sign (although there needs to be a lot of trust for an RN to sign something she didn't really coordinate).

I'm a MDS coordinator in MD for the past 8 years. I find that the salaries vary across the state. My salary is presently 78500.00 yearly. I have talked with nurses who make as much as 82000.00. I am considering relocating, but after reading the salaries here, i'm afraid I can't get nearly the salary I receive now. I am responsible for a 55 bed unit, and audit the care plans for accuracy and timeliness.

Specializes in Gerontology, Med surg, Home Health.

WOW!! Good for you! You'd never get that salary at a long term facility around here.

Specializes in Long term care.

I am an LPN in in OH working in MDS and I make $22/hr. I am responsible for about 70 residents in an alzheimers facility. We have mabye an average of 10 skilled people. I have only been at this for about 6 months and the only reason I started doing it was the flexible hours for school, but I actually sort of like it, but am I just dumb or does anyone else out there think that sometimes the whole thing is just ENTIRELY confusing???? To me, it seems like a HUGE number chase.

Do any MDS nurses out there have to be on call at there facility when someone calls off? If so, is the pay higher?

I'm from Oregon and was MDS coordinator, RCM, and staff developement for 3 years. I also made 21.00 ann hour. I also covered the floor when we were short staffed.

I should mention this is a 107 bed skilled facility. I was responsible for half the residents. the highest cesus was 70 so I was responsible for about 45.
