Which job to take?

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Hi everyone! I'm fortunate enough to have two job offers, but I can't decide. I'm a new mom of a 3 month old with about 1.5 years of exp.

JOB A: Small community hospital

- ICU position

- 3 12's plus EOW

- possible rotating sched days and nights

- 26/hourly base pay

- great experience

JOB B: Verrry small community hospital

- Float position, every floor except the ICU

- 3 12's no weekends

- overnights

- 27.90/hourly base pay

Both are the same distance from me. I like the pay and schedule of job B, but I don't know if I can pass up the ICU experience :/ I want to spend as little time away from my daughter and I'm a single mom, so childcare is tricky with the rotating schedule . . .

Any advice? (hopefully from working mommas)

I was wondering what type of experience (1.5yr) do you have?

Step-down/tele. I have no idea what to do :/

I am a mom as well and will be starting my new nursing job next week. He is almost two though and it will be a transition for us all since he will be attending daycare and I will be working 4 days a week.

My advice...well it sounds as though you really want job A since it has the ICU and then you will be golden to go move around if you have that experience and there is an opportunity too. There may be a rotating schedule so it could be tricky but I am sure that if you found the right person to take care of your daughter you could make it work.

With job B you would still need some help since it is overnights right and you would need to sleep to function.

Go for job A! Which did you feel like was the one place you were supposed to be??? Think of that too in your decision and where you want to be five years from now.

Wow, good for you with the two job offers! I have fifteen years experience and can't find a job.

With only one and a half years experience, I would take the first job. Do you really want to be floating to

different floors where you will be getting last minute assignments and aren't familiar with the floors? The money

isn't really a big difference.

Oh, can I have the job that you don't take? LOL!

Specializes in Psych, Med/Surg, LTC.

I would go with job A since there is no floating, you get the ICU experience and no rotating shifts. That is hard with having kids.

Think of it this way: which one would you have been most disappointed about had you been rejected? That's the one you want. :)

A) sounds like the best option for career development; B) is a more attractive schedule. If it were me, I'd probably choose the more feasible schedule due to the single mom/young child situation. You'll still be gaining experience, and I assume you still have alot of years ahead of you to develop your career. Your little girl will only be young once, and for just a short time.

Either way, grats on actually having two options to choose from, and good luck with whatever you choose! :D
