szy-claire, unfortunately jaz_bos is right. Clinical courses never transfer, especially those from comm college (where it's usually Nursing I, II, III, and IV) to 4 year BSN (where it's usually fundamentals, med surg I, maternity, pediatrics, mental health, med surg II, community health, and preceptorship). Sorry that you're having a hard time at the comm college. My best advice is to finish strong at your college with as close to 4.0 GPA as you can get, so no one could get the idea that you left due to bad grades or something like that. Depending on how close you are to finishing, you might as well stay there, get the RN, and start working. If it makes you feel any better, umass's clinicals aren't that great either. At least you're paying a fraction of the price Good luck!

I'm sorry and I know how you feel. I cried for hours (before and after a test I had to take that day) and had to start looking at other options. I do plan on reapplying again to their program, but this time I'm also looking into Salem State (even cheaper than UMass Boston) and maybe RCC, but I'll have to see what happens later on.

I'll have to say to you what one of my professors said to me: "There is a reason why you didn't get in. Don't worry, God has a plan for you so just remember that everything happens for a reason." I know it sounds cliche, but hearing her say that made me feel better and my mom agrees with her. One day it will happen for us and we'll be better off for it :)

Please keep me updated with what is going on with you. Also if I can help you at all or give you any information that I come across, please let me know.

Thanks, finding this out today on my birthday is very devastating :mad: specially since I waited the whole month to find out...

Salem is a bit far for me, how much less is it? I take it's not T accessible?

I'm sorry you had to find out on your bday (BTW: Happy Birthday!!!)

Salem State is T accessible (about 2 or 3 buses go there plus the Purple Line and the school has a shuttle that will pick you up to take you to school). Salem is far for me too, but if I got accepted I'd just get an apartment and go to school that way; I would rather do that than add more to my loan debt by dorming. UMass Boston is about $11,000 ($10,878 on their website) per year while Salem State's tuition is currently $7,730. From what I've been able to read, their program is highly regarded and it takes about 3 years to complete (idk if having a Bachelors degree helps, but I hope it does). Salem's deadlines are the same as UMass Boston (Feb. 1 for fall and Nov. 1 for spring; application fee is $40). To get in, all classes have to be a C- and above, including your sciences and nursing classes have to be passed with a C+ and above :) (You can see more info in this pdf about the Nursing department: http://www.salemstate.edu/assets/images/ACA_sohs/AcademicPoliciesSONOct11.pdf)

It's not really my choice to go that far, but its the farthest I'll go in the state since I know they are still within proximity to the Boston area and my family. Here are some posts that I found on Salem State here (I'm still trying to get more info on the school):

Thanks for info, I will be seeing what happens. I haven't decided what plan of action to take. I was thinking about maybe doing a Bachelor's in something else and later on applying for nursing again.

The trip sounds like a haul : | it takes me 2 trains to get to UMass and about 45mins to an hour. Not too practical, and in terms of moving it's pretty hard...my SO and I just moved up here and he works in the city. :uhoh3:

Paying to get into a private Uni for Nursing just doesn't make sense either. Do you already have a Bachelor's?

I'm wondering what it was that made me not get accepted. My grades are all A+ except for 1 B. I had a great essay, a great letter from an experienced surgical RN. Will my chances be slim as well if I reapply during the fall is what I'm thinking.

No prob :) and yes I got my BA in Sociology last year and have been taking nursing pre-reqs since graduation. I'm pretty much done with private schools and only want any cheap state school that will take me. I'm still wondering what got me rejected from UMass as well (none of it makes sense to me either). I don't think you're chances are slim at all, but it just makes me wonder why they would have rejected you (they should at least give us a considerable reason). What else would you consider getting your Bachelors in, if you don't mind me asking?
