I was hoping to aplly to UmassAmherst Nursing program sometime soon and I was just wondering if anyone can tell me about ithis program and how is it? Is it tough tough to get in? What was the requierments? What wat your requierments.

UMass Amherst, is very competitive to get in, my daughters room mate was dean's list and not accepted, she graduated with another degree and then went to community college.

You will have to do 2 years of prequites, you can see than by going to their web page. Get good grades and do well on your SATs and you will stand a chance of getting in.

There are also programs in UMass/Darmouth and UMass/Boston you may want to consider.

I was told from a recent grad that they are only accepting nursing students as freshman, no transfers.

I think everyone has their school that they really want to get into. For me I wanted to get into a 2 year and then do my RN-BSN online while I'm working as an RN. I start at STCC Sept 2nd in their nursing program!

I am a Umas amherst Grad class of 03 and It is one of the toughest nursing programs to get into...then if u're lucky enough to get in ...u have to work very hard to stay in ...I dropped out and changed my major, but now i'm back in school after marrige and a baby tring to do nursing at a comm college. just do the best u can and good luck, my sister will be there in the fall as a freshman, I was also a part of Student Gov Association so feel free to ask me anything about the school....over all I LOVED UMAAS/AMHERST ...BEST TIME OF MY LIFE..! BESIDES MY BABY...LOL

I also went to a community college and did my 2 years, passed nclex w/75q, started work as RN in August 2007, and just found out I got accepted to online RN-BSN at UMASS Boston starting September, which my hospital will pay some of the tuition.

As a RN, you would be making good money to help offset the tuition costs. The best part was that my tuition at comm college was approx 1200 per semester and I owe nothing when I graduated.

So this is just another option to consider.....

I'm a UMASS Amherst graduate '06. I loved UMASS...yeah..it's a tough program. At the time I got in, we had a "pre-nursing" major- which meant the first 2 years you took prereqs- so you weren't really in the nursing major yet. Then towards the end of the sophomore year you had to apply to the major. They literally had like only 60 slots. I was lucky I applied and got in the first time. I believe the time I applied, the school got like 200 applications. The people who did not get in the first time were able to start the nursing major the following spring semester instead of the fall. Sorry if I confused you! The rules are different now. Now you can apply when you're in high school and if you get accepted, you're automatically in the nursing major- no more "pre-nursing" but of course you still have the prereqs the first 2 years before starting the actual courses in nursing your junior year. Yeah I don't think they are accepting transfer students at this time..but then again I graduated 2 years ago so things could have changed. Good luck in applying to nursing schools! wow thank you so much dolphin. Im guessing I may want to ask my guidance counselor about this about trying to apply to a nursing program. Im guessing there looking for alot of science classes to. Thank you if anything eelse feel free to to say anything.
