RCC & BHCC Nursing Applicants, Acceptance and Denials

:smokin:Just wrote this long post, and hit the wrong key and its gone! Ah!

I am basically applying to both of these programs next semester, and trying to gather personal experiences re: RCC and BHCC acceptance or denial to the RN programs. Both schools are not very clear in regards to some of the following..

- How many times did you apply? Did you get in on your first try? How many students apply to the programs each time around? What did your grades look like?

This is where I stand..

AP1 C

AP2 A

Micro B+

English C

Chem A

Drug Calc (for bunker hill) A

Taking STATS now, because I am also applying to 4 year schools.

Teas- I took it over at BHCC which only has three sections. I need to retake at RCC

Science 64%

Math 84%

Reading 74%

I am very interested nto comparing my standings with others who have either been accepted or denied.

Well, I have to first suggest to you that an ADN will be difficult (but not impossible) when applying for jobs in the Boston area. At this point, a BSN is practically required if you're a new grad.

I think your grades and TEAS result for science might be deal-breakers. There is such intense competition that schools will probably not accept a C in A&P or English. Weakness in science will make your future pharmacology and pathophysiology courses harder. But hey, you never know! Make sure you have a great essay and the right reasons for going into nursing. The admission committee will be able to see that. Also, see if you can go to school elsewhere (wish I could). Boston is just saturated with too many nursing students and therefore new grads.

In my case, my lowest grade was a B- in intro to psyc. All others A's, the occasional B+, but I don't remember exactly. I did get into nursing school on my first and only try, to umass boston. Best of luck to you!

May I ask if you applied for the Fall or Spring? Whom did your letter of rec. come from?

Hi Hopeful:

I have just applied to BHCC for the 2011 Fall evening program. From what I've been told, the competition is extremely fierce, and grads are a huge factor. When I took A&P I last semester, I was told on the first day of class that if we were applying to the Nursing program and A was essential for acceptance. Luckily, I got an A, but it was not an easy fate. I do not have anything less than a B in any of my other classes. I am scheduled to take the TEAS in March, and I have already started studying for those. I was told that you need to get an 80 in every section to even be considered. Remember, this is really only hearsay, and I don't have any actual facts (as they are very hard to come by at BHCC). I can tell you that I'm striving my as hard as I can to exceed on this test and anything else I may need to do to get accepted.
