MGH ABSN Summer 2013

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Published

I just applied for the MGH program starting in May 2013. Is anyone else applying here and/or anywhere else around the Boston area starting next summer?

This is the first time I applied. Good luck!

I didnt get the email the first time around...I didnt hear anyone else mention they got one but who knows..

This is my first time applying also. I am hoping that the email was sent to us as a "weeded out" pool...we'll see.

Did either of you submit a FAFSA ? Was it supposed to be submitted with the Nov. 1 app ? Was there an option on the application that we were do indicate that we had submitted a FAFSA ?

I contacted finaid during the application process and here is their response:

You would need to fill out the 2013-2014 FAFSA which will cover you from Summer 2013 through Summer 2014. This FAFSA will be available in January, 2013.

Please be sure to indicate the following when completing the 2013-2014 FAFSA:

- You are a 5th Year Undergraduate Student

- Completing your 2nd Bachelor’s Degree

- You will Not be in a Masters Level Program

THank you, Penny S.

ok. So the FAFSA for 2013-2014 on the FAFSA website

and how do we indicate/notify MGH that we will be completing a FAFSA ?

I think that I saw in an older thread that you have been stay at home mom for ten plus years . I am as well ! Big change for me. I have completed a year of pre-reqs though so I have def got used to being back in school. This is a total career switch for me; I worked as a paralegal before being home with the kids. But I too have been home for about ten-eleven years.

We have a lot in common! I also had a law career prior to staying home. Do you have moments when you think "what am I doing?!?" I am really excited about this but I am also very nervous wondering if I am going to be ale to handle everything. Biggest concern is time management and child care.

As for the FAFSA, when you fill out, you have to enter the college codes of the places where you are applying. I *think* that if and when you are accepted at MGH, you fill out forms through their Finaid and they then request a copy of the FAFSA directly from the agency.

Ok. That's what I thought. That the school code was the "key" to it all, that MGH would access the FAFSA database. Yes, there are plenty of days where I say that EXACTLY. Then I look at how positive it is and how beneficial to the field and to my family it would be to have me do this. There are more days I feel accomplished more than guilty or that I am going down the wrong path though. The sense of accomplishment is so huge when you've been home for so many years. It really has breathed new life into me. I have 3 boys 11, 9 and 4. They all have busy schedules as well so yes, somedays it feels like I am biting off a lot. All will be worth it though. Do you live in the city ?

About 18 miles outside of Boston. If I do get accepted, the one thing I am NOT looking forward to is the commute. During low traffic volume, I can zip in to Charlestown in under 30 minutes but there are not many low traffic days so it can take me close 1.5 hours to get in there. I am also an all-boy Mom! Ages 10, 9, 5, and 4.

Are you applying elsewhere? I already sent an app into Simmons and I am getting ready to send one to UMass Boston. I also plan on reapplying to Curry (was wait-listed last year).

I am in Canton, about 20 min. out. I have not even began to think about the commute. Yikes. I am applying to UMB for Feb. 1 application deadline but we will know MGH's answer beforehand. I will probably still apply though as there is a considerable cost difference. May still be worth it to forfeit an MGH deposit for UMB lower tuition overall.

That is what is so frustrating...all the different deadlines. I also want to know who may offer the best finaid packet before having to put deposits down but that won't happen. Oh well! Of course, this is assuming that I even get in anywhere....lol!

no word yet ????? little anxious ( :

I was told decisions would be mailed out at the end of next week...the suspense is too much! :)
