Hey everyone. Just wondering if any RNs in the Boston area would be willing to share their hourly pay/monthly income? I'm wondering how anyone affords to live/work in this area with rent prices! My husband and I are looking to relocate but can't seem to agree on a location, and Massachusetts is on our list. Any help is appreciated!

I make around $42/hr. Where are you looking to rent? The rent is highly variable. My mortgage for a 3 bedroom house in a residential area of the city is easily less than the rent for a studio or 1 bedroom downtown.

I make 29/hour but I work in Weymouth. But I get a Veteran pension as does my husband.

I've been looking in areas surrounding Boston such as Lynn, Medford, Winchester, etc. Most of the rent prices I see are $2500+. We're looking for at least a 2 bedroom in a good school district.

I have my BSN and OCN with 4+ years experience in acute care for adult hematology/oncology. I'm looking for a position in oncology but wouldn't mind trying critical care either. I've been reading that it's extremely difficult to find a job in Boston without knowing someone which is daunting.

Dana Farber nurses are the highest paid nurses in the state. At least they were the last I knew. That's 100% outpatient oncology.

You can't find something for less than $2500 in Lynn? I find that rather surprising. (Lynn Lynn City of Sin is what it's known as around here.) Winchester (and just about any town that starts with a W) is expensive. Medford, Malden and Melrose are overall pretty affordable. Maybe my definition of affordable is different because I'm used to the cost of living around here though. My mortgage for my 3 bedroom house in Boston is around $1800.

What better way is there to learn about income and affordability in your career if you're relocating then by asking nurses who live and work in your designated destination?

My friend works at mass general making $56/hr. Don't go to Lynn.... has bad reputation and as someone else said "Lynn Lynn city of sin." I live in beverly which is about 30 min north of Boston.. easy drive and affordable rent. I live in a 3br apt which is huge that's $1650/mth. If you end up working 2nd or 3rd shift you shouldn't have to worry about traffic either.. hope this helps a little and good luck
