UMSON Spring 2013

U.S.A. Maryland

Published

Hey!

Anyone planning on applying to UMSON for Spring of '13?

Wow! Only about 47% of the applicants have a shot. Patience and faith is extremely vital right now for me. :notworthy:

What the numbers do not tell you is the level of competitiveness of the candidates. That won't be clear until the entire admissions process is completed. That is one reason I hesitate to quote numbers - they don't give a true picture of any one candidate's chances.

Hi Grey Lady, any idea when the phone calls will be made to the new Shady Grove students?

All new students will be initially called by the office of admissions. I call the Shady Grove students right after that. I would only be able to give you a date if I could predict how much longer the process will take.

I just signed a tentative lease at Fayette Square Apartments (pending acceptance). The place is a bit pricey, but everything is included for the most part, the location is great, and the people I worked with in the leasing office were incredibly nice! If anyone else is looking for housing and has any questions about Fayette Square, I can give you the name of the woman who helped me. She was great.

Getting excited!!!

I am getting tired of this suspense. It will be terrible if at the end of all this, they deny giving me admission. It is even depressing to think about it.

We are not the only nursing school. We also have no control over the quality of the applicants who apply for any given semester. I can assure you that candidates who were not successful the first time they applied were admitted the next time they tried. Take heart but do look at other opportunities. Best of luck!

Thank you grey Lady. I just feel better now:)

Why do applicants that apply twice typically get accepted the 2nd time? Improved grades/test scores or just the fact of applying twice? That is interesting! How much weight would you say recommendations have in the whole application?

I did not mean to imply that ALL applicants who apply a second time will be admitted. Improvements definitely change the way the applicant is reviewed. Perhaps the essay was not all that great the first time, or there was a missing science course in which the applicant eventually earned an A. Or maybe an applicant got some really wonderful healthcare experience. We look at everything in the application, including references, very carefully. I would not be able to give you any kind of numbers to indicate how each item is weighted - we don't really have a scoring system. I can only tell you that your grades in the sciences are crucial.

hi grey lady. i have one prereq, microbio, that i am finishing up this semester. i have well above a 3.0 for my science gpa, but i was wondering if i get a b- and get accepted, if they will revoke the acceptance. i know that you must receive a b or higher, but does a b- count?

I don't know - that is a question for admissions.

Hey grey lady,

Would any Withdraws on my transcripts look bad? And by any, I only mean one. Thanks!

Hi Grey Lady, I am not sure if this is a question you are able to answer or not. Basically, I have finished all of my pre-reqs for the BSN program and submitted my application, however I am taking classes this semester at Towson as a Bio major because I wasn't sure if I would be accepted into a BSN program (however, I recently found out I was accepted at Towson) and wanted to just finish my BS in Biology... I really would love to go to Maryland, but if I am accepted do I still need to get Bs in the classes I am in now even though they are not pre-reqs for BSN? If you are not sure, do you have an e-mail address where I could direct this question? Thank you :)
