Greetings MD Nurses!!!!
I am moving over to your side of the states in July and wanted to ask about a few hospitals that I have applied too.
So far.. I have two interviews at JHH in the Cardiac Patient Care Unit and also the CMSC9 floor- med surg for 17-21 year olds. This is my first choice... I like how I have been treated by the Nurse Recruiter- very prompt replies and professional!
I have sent and followed up with Maryland General Hospital as well as Howard County General... Had a great conversation with MGH but they are not hiring new nurses at the moment- it seems their preceptors are still tied up from the last big new grad hire... as for HCG... Nada...
Does anyone recommend another hospital to apply too? I am a new ADN grad this May. I know there is Greater Baltimore Medical and University of Maryland Medical... I guess I am overwhelmed at the amount of hospitals in the area and a little bit tired of filling out the online applications. I also would like to inquire about Walter Reed.
I plan to live in or around Ellicott City or Columbia.
Any tasty morsels/tidbits of info that flow forth are appreciated!!!!
Thank You in advance!

Thanks a million for the food for thought... It helps so much to have someone tell you the ropes in a new town. I will look into GBMC for sure... still trying to get a second hospital interview on April 26th... maybe I will have luck at GB :)
Hrmmmm about MGH... sounds like maybe not the best place for me to start out...

I'm a student (May 2006!) who is starting work at HCGH as a PCT. They seem to have a good new nurse program. Good ratios, it seems. I wouldn't start at Maryland General. "Combat pay."
I'll PM you with the name of the contact at HCGH. How familiar are you with Columbia and Ellicott City?
You could also look into Anne Arundel or North Arundel. They are supposed to be nice. Depends if you want city or county of course.

heya fraggle!
I know about ellicott city and columbia through my bro who lives in the latter. My husband went to visit him in March and my bro drove him all around the two places... as well as certain areas of baltimore. Ellicott city seems cute... I like the main street appeal.
We plan to get there around early July and stay with my brother while we find a house.
As for Anne Arundel or North Arundel... I hadn't looked into them at all but I will now. Thanks!

Well everyone... I visited Baltimore this last week and had my interview and it went really well. The staff was stellar at JHH and made me feel at home.
My DH and I are moving from a remote area in Northern California where I've attended school. Baltimore is a big change... but I think we'll adjust nicely since we have lived in and around San Francisco, Oakland and Los Angeles before.
I am going to be moving into the temporary housing offered by southern management company until we can get our bearings and we have the choice between cockeysville and owings mills. Any information regarding either of these towns would be very helpful and hugely appreciated.

In terms of commuting, they're both pretty far from JHH. Driving from Owings Mills will be slightly more of a headache due to having to take the Beltway. However, I believe you can take the Metro from Owings Mills which will take you right to JHH. Definitely a plus if you want to take public transport.
Both are suburbs. Owings Mills is a bit more developed.

The subway runs from Owings Mills directly to JHH. It's one line- you don't even have to get off! It "starts" in Owings Mills and "ends" at JHH.
Oh Sweet.. good info... thankyou, BoonersMom!! Thanks to you too, PennyLane
We are finding some reasonably priced homes in Pikesville... what is the word on this place, anyone? It's between Owings Mills and Baltimore... anyone know if it's safe/kosher/happytown?
I just got off of a 12... had someone with Joseph's Disease... so freakin sad. My heart broke when she reached out and needed a hug- crying. I just LOST it... (snotty nose, teary eyed mush ball) but it was awesome... after I gathered my wits and cleared my head.. she was so thankful for that recognition of her reality.
happy to be a nurse,
Hi Pikesville is fine...large Jewish community there....it's a very nice/safe area.
I live in Catonsville....have you looked here? I'm a little biased but I totally love Catonsville:)
