Montgomery College Nursing Spring 2015

U.S.A. Maryland

Published

So I figured I would start a new thread for those applying to Montgomery College in Spring 2015.

I had applied to the nursing program in the fall of 2015 but was put on a "wait list" which was not used because my AP 1 and 2 were over 5 years old. I have since taken a pathophysiology class and so now the AP 1 and 2 will be counted towards the four core course requirements. I have a 3.45 GPA, I scored an 82.7 on my Teas, and I have all four of the required prerequisites finished.

I really hope I get in this time or I don't know what I am going to do. I have heard the spring semester is easier to get in which makes sense because you don't have all the high school seniors that will be graduating applying. Anyway good luck to everyone applying!

Hey, Swolfe!!! I was going to start a thread myself soon but was also sort of waiting to see if anyone else would start a thread first.

I'm kind of worried that I won't be accepted -- only because of my TEAS score. I only scored a 70. And I did score above what they wanted on the Reading section as well. An overall score of 70 is above what they want, but it is still pretty low. And there was another MC thread I was reading where someone scored a 71 with a 4.0 and had all pre-reqs and they did not get accepted, so that worries me... a LOT.

Other than my TEAS score, I have a 3.5 or so GPA and all my pre-reqs are finished (and I am doing microbiology, nutrition, and pathophysiology this fall -- I don't need patho, but I am taking it because I really just enjoy the professor who teaches it). I also already have a Bachelor's (BA in English) from a four-year college, though I really don't know if that will help any. I pray it does, because I want this so badly, but I don't know what kind of chances I have. I just keep hoping that since this is for the spring semester they won't have as many applicants.

hope_is_w_feathers I think you will be ok with your TEAS score. Would be better if you had you microbiology class done.

I completed all the prerequisite, micro, A&P 1 and 2... my TEAS total score is 82% and my reading score is 78.6%. The waiting is killing me! Argggg

Hi, klicrstina!

With that TEAS score, you will be just fine.

I was told by counselors at the school and at the nursing program information session that you don't NEED microbiology to be done before you are accepted into the program. Some people do it while they are taking nursing classes, even. I am getting it done beforehand (this semester). It states the priority courses are A&P I & II, EN102, and MA110.

Am I wrong? Now I am worried I was supposed to have Micro done already when I've been told differently. :nailbiting:

Yeah, the waiting will be hard, but since I have classes this semester, I will be kept busy most of the time. Does anyone know when they will send out letters? I was just guessing October sometime? I think that is what I read from a past Spring MC thread.

By the way - My name is Ashley.

Ashley,

I don't think you need micro to get in. I was told to try and get it done before classes started because nursing classes were extremely demanding.

I think they will mail out let letters at the end of September beginning of October . The wait is killing me as well especially since I just got finished waiting on my fall app!!!

Btw... My name is Stacey .

Stacey,

Whatever you do, please, please, please, message here and let us know when you get your letter. And I will do the same so others can gauge when they should get theirs.

People who are accepted get an official letter that they have to SIGN for. And, from reading other posts, it seems like people who do not get accepted get a letter much later than those who get their letter of acceptance and those you do not have to sign for. So scary!!!

Ashley,

I will definitely let everyone know. You are correct... If you get on you get a certified letter and if you don't they send it by regular mail. I really hope this time I get in ;)

Stacey

I also have applied for the 2015 nursing program at Montgomery college. The wait is definitely killing me! I applied to the fall 2014 program and I did not get in. The transcript evaluator never processed my transcripts from university of MD and PGCC even though I sent them over 6 weeks in advance so when I sent over my application by the April 1st deadline.. they had nothing in there system. Thankfully, they have everything entered into their system and hopefully I am praying they accept me for 2015. This will be my 2nd degree as my first on was a BS in sociology/ Biology.

Hi All!

I also applied for the Spring program. Does anyone know when we are expected to find out? I'm hoping that it's going to be early October at the latest. The wait is killing me, and I really want to know if I'm in so I can figure out where my life is going. This will also be my second degree if I get in. I got my bachelors in Kinesiology, but I didn't figure out that I wanted to be a nurse until last year. I really want to get started with the program so I feel like I'm moving forward in the right direction. All of my pre-reqs were done and I got a pretty good score on the TEAS (85%) so I'm hoping that is enough to get in. Good luck everyone!

I also applied for the fall 2014 and was wait-listed (but never admitted). I was still completing a four courses that semester also but I thought they would let me in because of my grades. Clearly they give priority to those who already have the priority courses completed. Well, I applied for the spring 2015 and I have all courses completed. I have a 4.0 GPA and a TEAS score of 81 percent. I wonder if I am the only one who also applied to University of Maryland School of Nursing? They have a two year program and the prerequisites are a little similar. They award you a BSN though (not a AS in nursing) and they are located at shady grove.

MCapplicant, if I am not accepted for the RN program at MC for Spring 2015, I will probably just go on to get the other courses that I need for Shady Grove. For Shady Grove, BSN, you also have to have taken chemistry and stats and human growth and development and nutrition. For the RN program at MC, you don't need those things. I would really hate to have to do that though as I want to start my life towards nursing as soon as possible. I am not getting any younger. Would be nice to get my RN, start working, and then get my BSN online, as a lot of people do. Just seems--for at least my lifestyle as it is now--more convenient. So I will be so upset if I don't get accepted to the RN program. :crying2:

Yes, I know what you mean. I am actually taking chemistry, stats, Human growth and development, nutrition, and economics this semester. I took the remainder of my pre-reqs last semester for MC's nursing program (and one class during the summer). Since I would have a free semester I decided to take those classes this semester and apply to University of Maryland's School of nursing. You are able to apply if you only have 5 more classes to go and your taking them that semester. I will see what happens if I'm not accepted to UMSON but only Montgomery college I would have taken them only for the knowledge though...lol but I like having more odds. I'm getting old as well. I just turned 27 this summer!!!
