Montgomery College Nursing Fall 2012

U.S.A. Maryland

Published

Greetings! I wanted to start a thread for anyone who has applied into Montgomery College's Fall '12 Nursing program. I am applying after my second attempt on the TEAS which will be on Tuesday, March 20th. My first try (without study) rendered scores that barely met the minimum requirements, so I am hoping to have a higher, more competitive score this time around. I also have all four priority courses completed, so I am hopeful to be accepted!

Good luck to anyone who comes across this thread!

Hello all,

I have been admitted for spring entry into the MC nursing program. I have a question about clinicals. Are they offered Monday- Friday and Are they chosen for you or can you choose the day you want? Hope you all are having a great semester so far.

Thanks

Clinicals are offered monday through Friday. They are chosen via a lottery system on your registration day. Students pick numbers and get to choose their clinical based on the number.

Thank you! May I ask how you like the program so far?

How does that work? If I have a certain schedule outside of school how will I be able to choose a clincal that I can do and go to work? Doesnt seem easy to work and go to school.

Youll have to hope you get a good number for the registration lotto and can pick the one you want. They have a lot of options though, so im sure youll be fine.

Can anyone that is currently in the program tell me the brand and style number of the uniform pants and top? Thanks in advance!

Honestly not really. We could tell you the ones that we use. But you want to wait and order them through school. First of all sometimes they change. And second of all, they were talking about switching carriers this year from Fentons Uniforms to something different and if they do, theyll probably switch brands. The uniform company will come to your registration day. I would wait until then.

Hi guys, I am currently in my first semester at MC and wanting to pursue my Associates degree in nursing, at MC. I only have completed the B107, and EN101, an arts, and Psych 101. Am I eligible to take the Teas test now?? I think you only need to have b107 and en101 complete? Also, If I end up taking the teas and with my only classes completed, is it worth applying for the nursing program in March 2013, for fall?? I realllllyyyy need some advice. Next semester I will be taking A/P 204, a sociology class, spanish, human growth and dev, and en 102. Over summer I will be doing A/P 2, and online statistics. I've been told by many people in the nursing dept that the rate for applying in the spring, is much lower than when people apply in August. Please PLease Pleaseee let me know anything you can guys. I'd really appreciate it!! I'm 18, and I plan on transferring to University of Maryland Shady Grove for my BSN...if not, rn to bsn. Again, I really appreciate it guys. Here's my facebook if anyone would like to help me out in advice, or in my same shoes! http://www.facebook.com/daisy.villa?ref=tn_tnmn

GOOD JOB TO ALL OF YOU SMARTIES THAT GOT IN!

ps-What are some good study materials for the TEAS???

tempbesty313- the teas study guide is what helped me the most along with the practice tests. The science material is what you learn in chem, bio and A&P, so without taking those classes and having that experience, it'll be a bit tough. The book has all that material and for a good science grade, i suggest studying the information in there. Also, with reading and english, go back to the basics or see an english teacher and have them point out what it is the question is asking you. Breaking it down to the basics and getting reoriented to that will really REALLY help! math you did really well in, so just brush up on your science and english/reading! Good luck!

dais21- congrats on going into nursing! Honestly, take everything you can before applying. en101 and bi107 are the only prereqs where the others are priority, but they place you into groups, and those who have all the priorities complete are basically in. Having your prereqs AND priority courses done not only will help you get in, but it so important to have that knowledge before starting the first semester and doing NU110. Everything you learn in A&P is needed. I also could not imagine also having the extra classes to take with the nursing courses. On top of that, you can't really plan out your schedule in advance with the nursing program, so its safe just to have it all out of the way. I really only used the teas study guide available with the practice tests and it was the most useful because it teaches you exactly what you need for their exam. All the others aren't geared towards the teas so you're really studying a lot of information that may be unnecessary. Good luck!

sorry its taken someone so long to get on here and give you guys some answers, but the first semester kept us all pretty busy! best of luck!

Ebbi- the program is wonderful, but it is a lot of work, but doable. Stay organized. NU105- you have a couple written assignments and a group project, but i think they are doing away with that group project. Then NU121, you learn a head to toe assessment, each class focuses on a different system. There are quizzes for the reading material and databases to fill out based on the data collected during the assessment. Then NU110, large lecture. its long and ugh, sometimes not interesting... all the professors makes slides based on the chapters and every three weeks theres an exam. the final is cumulative. You also have have a written assignment, concept map (start early on this!) and other stuff. You also then have the lab part to 110 which is your clinical, and there are a few on campus clinical days where you have online tutorials to complete prior and put some stuff to practice. In all these classes, EVERY POINT COUNTS! every fraction of a point counts. They do not round up, so if you're at 74.99, you get a D, and have to repeat the course. If you're at 79.99, you still have a C, and so on. So, start off strong!
