medical assitant: how much do they make?

him im planning to take up medical assisting certificate at AAC, hopefully soon .. how much do they make an hour and is this job on demand as other medical courses?

As this is a nursing forum, I'm doubtful that anyone can answer your question here. I would suggest calling the health professions office at AACC though. They're usually really helpful and may be able to tell you a range of wages.

I've been A Medical assistant for 7yrs. I started out making $11hr now making $20hr. I never had a problem finding a MA job. Find a good practice and stay there. Good luck:yawn:

In my area I've seen ads that say $10 to $14/hr. Ads also specify those with experience.

I am a Medical assistant. Getting out of school is the problem they start you off with just 9 or 10 dollars an hour and sometimes they dont want to hire you with no experience. The only thing with that is the amount they charge for the program, for that much you might as well go into nursing. You learn just about the same thing and it will be worth it in the end. I am not knocking your choice because I also went through a Medical Assistant program but in the end I wish I would of just done nursing. If you can pass that then you can get through nursing it requires the same amount of study and the fact that you chose the health care field, as a nurse you will have more opportunities and better pay. So if its about the pay then you really wont see it until you spend a couple of years working and probably steady in one office and most of the time MA positions dont offer benefits. So good luck. But if you do go through the program see if the credits are transferable in case you decide to go into nursing in the future. You may also want to look into ultrsound, radiology or another paid well field in the healthcare field.

This is uncommon. Before becoming a nurse I was a CMA in California only making 9.50/hr when I left. LVN's don't even make as much as this person is quoting she makes as an MA.

If you want variety outside of RNs check out EMS. EMT and Paramedics have tons of fun and the pay is pretty solid too
