Introductions

U.S.A. Maryland

Published

Hi everyone! I just thought I'd start the new State forums off with an introduction thread. Please feel free to reply to this thread if you wish. Otherwise, feel free to start a new topic if you wish to discuss other topics that are local or state related. Enjoy!

I also attend HCC and just started my last year in the ADN program. My emotions have been flying all week - excited, scared, stressed, confused....you name it!!!! I've been told that this is the hardest semester and most students don't pass. I guess thats why I'm stressing out. Anyway, nice to have a forum with other Marylanders!!!!!

Hello All!!!

I am so glad to find an avenue to speak with nurses from all over the Maryland area. I am a new RN, working at a free standing psychiatric hospital in Western Maryland. I was educated at a community college in Hagerstown that has an excellent program with great board-passage rate, and was econonomically do-able with 3 small kids. On campus, they also offer U of MD courses towards the RN to MSN program, so I will be able to continue my graduate education without a huge commute. Having been born and raised in Baltimore City, I admire those nurses who work in that hectic environment. However, my psyche requires a slower, more secure environment outside of the drug-filled environment of my old neighborhood, so we headed out to the mountains. Hope to hear from more Maryland nurses.

Thanks for the opportunity to share, and I am looking forward to hearing from more MD nurses. Cath

Hi Marylanders

I am also from Maryland. I just started my last year at HCC. I too am really scared, confused, and excited all at the same time. It is going to be a hard semester. I am working full time also so it is going to be a long semester. I live in Baltimore and also graduated from Frostburg State University with a BA in Psychology. I wish everyone well for this semester. I would also like to know if anyone knows of any fulltime positions available in Maternal Child Unit for nursing students?

Thanks

:p

Hello everyone, and esp to cat as I am in Hagerstown too!

I work at the local hospital in the coronary care unit, which is actually a 9 bed ICU. I graduated from the local ADN program. It will be nice to hear the different perspectives. Good luck to all the students.

Hey, Walt! You make me feel lazy, man!! I am impressed with your goals. I have often tossed around the idea of going back to school. I have heard that Shenandoah has a fabulous NP program, but it seems a bit expensive to me.

Helix

Hello, Helix,

My youngest daughter (age 21) is starting her 4th year at JMU in Harrisonburg, so having gone back and forth from Columbia to Harrisonburg, I've gained an appreciation for the Shenandoah Valley area. I'll check out your suggestion. Good luck to you and all the Marylanders posting on this board.

Hello AmyHall and Nurse1Day,

I see you both attend HCC. Was it hard to be accepted? How are your instructors? What are your overall impressions of HCC. What are the pros and cons? Any pitfalls to avoid? Any Nurse Ratchet's to avoid? Anything else that comes to mind? Good luck to you both. Thanks for any insight you have to offer. Best regards,

Walt

Hello! Im from the PHilippines and I'm going to Maryland this month. I just want to ask if anyone here lives near Lanham? I've been doing research about the hospital where I'm going to work (Doctor's Community Hospital) and about the place too (weather, people, special events, etc.). I hope you can help me out and share your experiences living in Maryland. It's going to be difficult for me with all the cultural differences but I'm hoping that I will be able to adjust well to my new job and new environment. Thanks :)
