good agencies in MD?

U.S.A. Maryland

Published

Hi, I am wondering if anyone knows of a reputable agency to work for in MD? I used to do agency work all of the time, but it seems like they've all gone out of business!

Thanks...

There are alot of good agencies here in MD. The pay is much better than other states. LPNs can make anywhere from $28-32/ hour depending on shift and facility. RNs can make anywhere from $39-50/ hour. Specialty RNs are the ones who make up toward $50. You have to do your research and I would suggest signing up with more than agency, because cancellations do happen. I'm still in school ( Graduate Jan. 11, 2007) but worked for many agencies as a CNA and FYI some nurses you will work with will be jealous because they know your making more money then they are.( seen this many times). Some agencies I know are: Alliant staffing in Owings Mills, All Staffing in Pikesville, and Quality nurses in Pikesville. Hope this helps

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know why many of the nursing staffing agencies have dissolved? What should one getting into the business of starting agency in Maryland be aware of from the start?

Thanks

Hello. I am an LPN but have worked for Maxim Healthcare. They do mostly Pediatric Nursing but I always had work and the staff in the Frederick, Md office were very nice. I also was able to do flu vaccine clinics in the area which I really liked. Good luck. Dani

yes, very much so. isn't this the same placed owned by a guy named eric? if so, yes it's still in business.

is critical lcare profesionals out of towson still in business?

work for Medical Staffing network in Reisterstown every time i come back to visit, office staff changes often though, they always get me wk and keep me busy. heard chesapeake is good too

The reason why so many agencies dont survive is because of the cash reserves. I am told that the average hospital takes 60-90 days to pay invoices. In the meantime, nurses payroll continues. With agency salaries you can see how payroll can quickly add up.

This one guy that I know that owns his agency says that his payroll for March was 210,000 dollars and he has yet to receive one penny form the hospitals yet.

How about Favorite Healthcare Staffing? Any good experiences with them in Maryland or PA?

I have been with my agency for 6 years. It's run by 2 sisters and of course the financial big guy...whom I have yet to meet. I live in PA and work in MD. The agency is called Critical Care Staffing and their number is 410-265-6977. Jessica and Jenni are the girls and they are great. Pay is comparable....actually very good!

Stacielpn: Thanks for your reply. I see from your other posts that you work in NE MD. I am in South Central PA. Used to live in Newark, DE tho, back in the 70's. So, I don't know if your agency has work around here. Favorite Healthcare Staffing had an ad in the April, 2007 "Nursing Spectrum" magazine saying that they paid RNs up to "$720/shift". The $720 was starred. After reading many posts about agency jobs, there seems to be a lot of "bait and switch". I worked in a community hospital for a very long time, so I am trying to see what else is out there.

yes i believe it is.

yes, very much so. isn't this the same placed owned by a guy named eric? if so, yes it's still in business.

I signed with up MSN but was cancelled numerous times (the same agency in NY rarely had cancellations). I learned that a part of the reason was my fault since I had only completed orientation packages for 2 hospitals. To avoid multiple cancellations, consider completing orientation for multiple hospitals, so when you are cancelled at one they can call around at others. Another thing I noticed was that some hospitals have their own in house agency, which means they will exhaust that list before going to the staff from the outside agency. You may face a higher likelihood of being cancelled from those.
