As for being a minority... Surrounded by some beautiful and smart women? I would say its just about the closest thing to heaven a guy could ask for.

Seriously, don't let being a guy in nursing school bother you, even if you are the only one in your class. You bring a unique perspective to the things being taught and you can learn a lot for your classmates regardless of gender.

    Congratulations and enjoy your trip.

I received my BSN at Auburn University, Auburn, AL and my MSN at Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA......I've been working in critical care SICU, MICU, PACU, ER since 1986......I want to tell you that I have worked with many male nurses......I love working with male nurses (not a sexual thing)...men live more "in the moment", they are totally absorbed in what is going on at the time. They don't gossip, degrade their co-workers, and most of those I've been privileged to work with, have been able to make me laugh with total abandon. Male nurses have a different take on the situation and it is good - go out there and give it all you've got, because not only are your patients waiting, your co-workers are too!

Small world, indeed! All of the non-nursing courses are taught at EC for EC credit; I just finished chemistry in a summer session, I'll have A&P there in a couple weeks. It's a beautiful campus. How long ago were you here? Some of the students in my Chem class were in the nursing program at EC, too; they spoke very highly of it.

Isn't it beautiful?? I miss it sooooo much - although Harvard does remind me of Elmira - their grounds keeping is just that good! Kind of chilly in the winter, but being from Vermont originally, winters anywhere else are like Bermuda! :Snow:

Who did you have for chemistry? Was it Dr. Stephens? He's a hoot! Were your classes in the "Hall of Heads??" Haha!

I just graduated from EC in 2003. As you know, it is quite a small campus (Elmira has a total enrollment of 1200, that includes grad and undergrad!), so if you were there recently, chances are that I know them, or at least who they are - who knows, might even be able to give you some dirt on people!

I had been told about Dr. Stephens, and I was really hoping we'd have him as our instructor, but it turns out he was doing something in Australia for the first half of our session. My instructor was a doctoral candidate from Cornell, a very nice lady, and very passionate about her subject. I did meet Dr. Stephens very briefly, in the hallways just a week or two ago. His office was in the building where we had lab (Kolker Hall, I think). Is that the Hall of Heads??? I hadn't heard anything referred to as that! Lecture was in Harris. My instructor and I were walking and chatting coming from Kolker; he introduced himself to us. Other than that, the closest I came to being taught by him was using the textbook and lab manual he co-authored!

Who did you have for A&P?

NO WAY! Turns out, depending on when you went to take your chemistry, I was probably in Australia for the time you were going to take the class! It is our third term that we can spend abroad! I am glad that you got someone else pretty good for the class though!

I didn't actually take A+P @ Elmira, but if you could choose someone to take it with, go with Dr. Gillie - she is AWESOME! I had a class called Animal Behavior with her. So much fun! She is a terrific prof!

And, yes - Kolker Hall is AKA the "Hall of Heads" - if you go down to the Amphitheater, you will see the most incredible taxidermy without having to go to a museum!
