Anyone else feel like you are in that book, the emperors clothes?

We start clinicals next month and the white scrubs we have to order for school are the thinnest, almost see through things I have ever seen. I think my looseleaf paper is thicker than my scrubs.

a) its freaking December, b) we only get 2 pair the whole time, c) and if the wind blows, or its raining, let's just say you won't need an imagination. Not to mention the natural occurrences we tend to have on any given moment.

So I've decided to ask my instructor to have darker bottoms and maybe white tops. You think she will go for it? They do look less dingy and dirty after a while.

In the mean time, I'm all ears for suggestions on how to conceal the member a little better around all my 20 something cohorts.

P.s. White boxers or dark boxers? Does it matter really, you can see underwear no matter what color they are.

I wore white uniforms in the military, white boxers/ white T-shirt did the trick.

Yeah, I figured with darker skin it would stand out. I probably could throw a pair of long John underwear or under armor also. That should block the view and keep things under control.

We started in white then the gals wanted to switch to blue; I stayed with white.

See if they'll let you buy your own white scrubs... if so, check out Aviator... they're made of much heavier material.

I would get pretty tired of long johns or under armor after two to four years of clinicals, but I think that would work. If you go with the shorter option then anything but white boxers or boxer briefs looks ridiculous. It isn't as bad as you think, I mean everyone knows you are wearing underwear.

Yeah, you have a point there. Ok I will trust your judgement. White boxers and t shirts. I'm on it!

Oh you guys! (old bat here, shaking head).

I realize that this is probably the first time you have had to deal with this type of wardrobe issue, but you could have gotten the answer from any female that has been dressing herself for a while. The reason that light colors are more revealing is the fact that they (undies) are contrasting with your skin - and this contrast is showing up big time through the clothing. The trick is to match your underoos to your skin color as closely as possible. So, if you are an avg 'white guy', look for undies in a beige-ish color - even light gray would probably be OK. Guys with darker skin color may actually be better off wearing black (yep, that's right) undies -- it's a fact, just ask any of your female relatives.

Glad to be of help here... years ago, I actually had to counsel a male nurse for not wearing ANY undies under his white scrubs (ACK!!!). He liked to go commando & was used to wearing green or blue scrubs. Don't know which of us was more embarrassed by the whole incident.

As a lady, I have to agree! I'm a darker skinned gal do I wear black undies in my whites to minimize things.

As for your commando nurse....I am embarrassed just reading that story! Feel bad for the guy, but that's pretty awkward for everyone. Yikes!

I think people would surprised as to the number of scrub-clad commandos out there.
