What are the responsibilities of RN Supervisor in LTC?

Be able to fit into everything. If there is a hole somewhere, there the RN supervisor will be :D I love it! Keeps me on my toes.

I do Tx, Answer questions the nurses have, answer questions the families have, take phone orders, contact doctors, pass meds, carry out recomendations from consultants, fill in for the DON when she's out, etc. It's a very fluid position.

I am a new grad on orientation in LTC. My job title RN Superviser. Right now I am working with LPNs. They teach me what they normally do on their shifts. It seems to me that they do everything you mentioned in your post. The DON told me that I will be working 12 hr shift on Fri, Sat, Sun. I am wondering if I will be doing what LPNs doing for their 20-25 residents or I will be responsible for 80-90 residents and also passing meds, TX, phone calls and so on for 20-25 residents.....I am not clear about my responsibilities. How many days of orientation should I have? So far I like what LPNs doing and would like to do this work. On another hand, all LPNs over there have a lot of years of experience and I am just brand new RN. I am afraid that they may ask me something and I wouldn't know the answer.Any advice?:confused:

Yea, that's a little more confusing.... I only pass meds if the nurses are off the floor or we are short a nurse. Otherwise I "supervise" the nurses working the cart. But if you are only shadowing the LVNs passing meds, it may be that they need an RN on the floor, working the cart, and in charge of hanging IVs and things that LVNs can't do. Michelle126 is right... you need to ask for a job description. I just know what I do!

I asked my DON today what is her expectation regarding my work. She said that I will be doing the same work as LPNs do. I asked her to clarify my job title ''RN Superviser" and she was surprised that they gave me a wrong paper. I guess they hired me as a stuff RN not as Supervisor. Now I feel much better. Actually I signed the paper with description of responsibilities of RN Supervisor. Verbally I was told that I will be a stuff nurse and that it is not a trick. Can I believe it and leave it as it is or I need to request another paper with my job description and sign it. :confused:

A 'stuff nurse' position???? Does that mean you have to do the stuff no one else wants to do?:D
