LPN to RN programs IN St Louis, mo

Nursing Students LPN-RN

Published

I am looking for LPN-RN programs in St Louis Missouri. I tried the community college a while ago, but they make you take so many additional classes by time you get done with the pre reqs it ends of taking 2-3 years and you only have a ADN. I really want something that's not going to take forever.

Not sure- the only one I know of in St. Charles with initials is NHC but never worked there although I interacted with nursing a bit. As far as Excelsior, I love it so far, there is the CPNE but I think I've enough time to prepare. See earlier posts also! Good luck- if you decide to take that route, PM me 'cause I've got some great stuff to study.

Thanks that is very good information. That's the way I am leaning

Hello,

I'm an LPN doing Excelsior- have passed 4 already 1st try (A's and B's) in the past 2 months. I don't have time to wait and, since I have a BS in something else, it doesn't make sense to go back for a traditional ASN. A lot of the exams so far focus on critical nursing actions based on the knowledge base you study for (the meds, dx., s/s, etc.)- if you've been a nurse for awhile, it isn't so bad. So far, it's been great. I am also looking for anyone interested in getting together/sharing study notes (I have some great ones!) and also brushing up on clinical skills (have a "kit' and DVD's to practice as you must do by the book and not forget something!) for CPNE. Also will be looking for someone to share costs for a workshop, the CPNE, etc. Anyone interested or doing Excelsior right now, I would love to hear from you! - St. Louis MO Excelsior Student

Amee37: I just graduated as an LPN from a Tech school and I had a few questions. How long did you wait before you went back to school? Did you find any other programs in St. Louis or online? I spoke with advisor from College Network and he said the program is through Excelsior, is this the program your doing? Are the modules difficult to get through? Does your job help you at all? Any advice you can give me would be greatly apprciated, we're already in the hole by $40G for my education so far and I really want to make a good choice.

You do not need to go through College Network to do the Excelsior program. They are a publishing company, and do not offer the degree. It's much, much cheaper to go directly through Excelsior. You'll save thousands if you do.

Thanks BBFRN, I read that in the other posts also. I'm not going to use TCN just really wanted to hear what he had to say. My husband got laid off (Chrysler closed) so I have to work full time which is why I was trying to find a distance learning program. Did my AA HSA online but having to log in at certain times may be a problem with having to work. Really looking for advice and options, Excelsior would be okay accept for traveling for the clinicals and I don't know if I'm ready for the BSN program. Most of my credits are in business which means I'd have to do alot of GE's since my LPN is from a tech school. Thanks in advance for any input.

Have you considered just doing the ASN through EC? Do you already have a bachelor's degree in another field?

You may want to consider ISU, since you don't want to travel for the CPNE.

No BS, I have an AA in Health Services Administration, and I looked into ISU and although they only offer the LPN to BSN I'm waiting for a counselor to call me back.

It works great for me- you should probably check out the website for Excelsior- I would not do College Network, it's just an additional expense as far as I'm concerned. I waited a long time (LPN in 95) and have a BS in Administration but, with the economy right now, it just makes sense. More and more Management positions in health care (my area) are wanting the RN now. Go for it-while what you've learned in LPN school is still fresh! I regret that I did not do this right away, I heard St. Charles CC has a great bridge program also.

Yeah that's what I found out after I got my associates, I was in management but then the state changed its requirements(you have to be an RN) and I was out of a job. That's how I ended up going to nursing school. I checked Excelsior first and at about $10g you can't beat it, however I still would have to make arangements for travel to do the clinicals this is my major concern with Excelsior; my oldest daughter is mentally disabled and I already feel guilty about my husband having to do so much the last three years because I was in school. Since it's only been a week since graduation I've got time, I just like to know what my options are. Thanks for your input all info is greatly appreciated.

Amee37 - did you have all of your pre-req's done since you already had a degree or did you have to do more pre-req's? If you did, where and how did you get them? I am looking at Excelsior and ISU, but have no pre-req's. Just trying to get a jumping off point and figuring out how to get started.

You may want to check out CLEP and Dantes to start and take all of the Gen Ed. stuff first. I do not have to take any Gen Ed exams except Microbiology and Anatomy (even though I've had it twice now!). The website has a brochure about what you need to do and ways to get credit. Hope that helps... studying now for 5th nursing exam this friday- so far all a's and b's- hope I can keep that up!
