  1. I am not actually affiliated with any of the Franchises, just looking into different options. I don't know what f/u is in place. Is it my understanding that people come in and order the tests they want and pay for them without insurance as far as I know. They then get the results from the same Lab/Franchise. I wonder if some people even do this anonymously, if they pay cash? My original question is; as RN, I have always gotten an order for lab tests (after explaining what's going on), so not having an order could violate practice acts? Your right TraumaRUs- this does open lots of doors (and cans of worms!).
  2. There is no billing, basically, people come in and have lab tests done and pay right then. I don't know the procedures for f/u but I assume they must have something in place (hopefully)!
  3. I have been looking into business opportunities, a few pop up I'm interested in; 1.) Any Lab Test Now, and 2.) The Drug Test Consultant. Was wondering how are these places able to perform Lab Tests without an MD order or even MD knowledge? Does this violate any practice acts (RN)? Any thoughts?
  4. OK-I thought I was going to do the FCCA 1st (as in brochure) but was told it won't be available until 3/09 but they let me go ahead and apply for the CPNE. As it is a 6-9 mo. wait, so be it...prob. better anyway!
  5. Got a B...one more theory nursing to go!
  6. I love seeing those who passed as I'm nervous about this one! Thanks for the encouragement. Congrats...it's over!
  7. Forgot to say- don't worry about the CLEPS- I took these exams quite awhile back- the cost is pretty low- just go take one- if you fail you know what you need to study- if you do OK on a practice exam-just go take the test-you'd be surprised! There are also DANTES (easy) and Ohio University exams (easier than CLEP). I did all of these routes for credits for BS- only failed one without study.
  8. Hey, I'm happy someone's here in MO too! As far as MO BON, they do accept Excelsior. I'm not sure I'm doing A and P through them yet as I only need an additional 2 credits and may be able to do this online somewhere else, their exam covers both I and II for 6 credits- I can only imagine how that exam is! So far, I like it, I've moved through very quickly (started in August). When I was making the decision, I just took the first nursing exam (Safety) without studying at all before enrolling (you have to pay an enrollment fee of $895)- I got a B- I did not even look at the outline, and, at that point, I decided to go ahead and enroll. I am worried about the CPNE (one BIG clinical final), but I am going to go to a workshop and have practice supplies at home- hoping to find someone in area who would like to practice as well- I've been on the Management side awhile and need to brush up the clinical skills for sure! If you decide to go that route, I have lots of good study materials. PM me for more questions-maybe we could talk on phone. PS- I have lots of A and P stuff also.
  9. Hi, I'm an LPN doing Excelsior in St. Louis area-would love to chat. I posted trying to find folks doing the same here in MO: https://allnurses.com/forums/f157/any-excelsior-folks-mo-333384.html#post3109759
  10. You may want to check out CLEP and Dantes to start and take all of the Gen Ed. stuff first. I do not have to take any Gen Ed exams except Microbiology and Anatomy (even though I've had it twice now!). The website has a brochure about what you need to do and ways to get credit. Hope that helps... studying now for 5th nursing exam this friday- so far all a's and b's- hope I can keep that up!
  11. It works great for me- you should probably check out the website for Excelsior- I would not do College Network, it's just an additional expense as far as I'm concerned. I waited a long time (LPN in 95) and have a BS in Administration but, with the economy right now, it just makes sense. More and more Management positions in health care (my area) are wanting the RN now. Go for it-while what you've learned in LPN school is still fresh! I regret that I did not do this right away, I heard St. Charles CC has a great bridge program also.
  12. Not sure- the only one I know of in St. Charles with initials is NHC but never worked there although I interacted with nursing a bit. As far as Excelsior, I love it so far, there is the CPNE but I think I've enough time to prepare. See earlier posts also! Good luck- if you decide to take that route, PM me 'cause I've got some great stuff to study.
  13. For ned2bnurse: You can find out a lot on the web site, http://www.excelsior.edu. You can pay as you go (I do) but they also have payment plans. I know you can apply for FA as well. I have not bought any textbooks- I use the library at my local CC. I did buy a current Mosby's- that and my old Taber's from long ago are great references. There are also a lot of materials on E-Bay. So, my cost for materials/texts so far are pretty nil.
  14. Hello, I'm an LPN doing Excelsior- have passed 4 already 1st try (A's and B's) in the past 2 months. I don't have time to wait and, since I have a BS in something else, it doesn't make sense to go back for a traditional ASN. A lot of the exams so far focus on critical nursing actions based on the knowledge base you study for (the meds, dx., s/s, etc.)- if you've been a nurse for awhile, it isn't so bad. So far, it's been great. I am also looking for anyone interested in getting together/sharing study notes (I have some great ones!) and also brushing up on clinical skills (have a "kit' and DVD's to practice as you must do by the book and not forget something!) for CPNE. Also will be looking for someone to share costs for a workshop, the CPNE, etc. Anyone interested or doing Excelsior right now, I would love to hear from you! - St. Louis MO Excelsior Student
