Failing class

Nursing Students LPN-RN

Published

Hi, I'm a second year nursing student. I have my LPN, and am one year away from an associates RN degree. Our courses are broken into 6 week blocks. Three Medsurgs, peds, OB, and pysch. I just finished my 1st Medsurg and failed by 2 points.

I am so disappointed in myself. I feel like I can't even function. Its almost a numbing feelings. I want to know where to go next. I am going to continue taking the rest of my classes, but the pressure is on. I feel like I'm at my breaking point. I'm emotionally drained, and I feel like physically I am sick.

Any advice?

Ugh I am here for the same question! Two test this semester and I have failed them both despite studying and feeling like I understood the material. Three months from being a RN and I am failing :(

Have either of you tried using NCLEX books like Saunders instead of your text books?

Specializes in LTC, Agency, HHC.

I failed my peds class, and had a friend that didn't pass med/surg in our LPN-BSN program. We've been where you are and have felt the exact same feelings you have. Look at my user name now.....I retook the class, passed, graduated, and I now have my BSN...and an active RN license.

YOU both can do this! Find out where your weak spots are and focus on them. What is your NCLEX prep software? Are you doing Hesi? ATI? Talk to your instructor, get some tutoring. Eat well, sleep well. Don't study too much. Yes, I said it. DON'T study too much. Your brain needs a break, too! You r academic counselor should be able to help you with a remediation plan to get your class passed and get you moving on.

Good luck. I know you can do this! You'll come back in a year from now and say "Thank God that's over!"

Don't stop now, you're almost finished!

does your school offer tutoring? try the Kaplan website. I know how you feel, I am 56 years old and taking NU 102 plus micro and my head is spinning. The RN program is so much more in depth than the LPN, some days it's hard to focus. WHen that happens I try to take a break and exercise a little even just stretch or do a youtube yoga. Drink a lot of water tea etc and eat very well, nothing from the vending machines! Keep your head clear and build in some down time. Get at least 8 hours of sleep! Best of luck! xoxox

Thanks everyone! I am meeting with my acedemic advisor tomorrow. I start peds tomorrow, and I have already gotten a jump on the 1st lecture. It was disheartening at first, but now I have more fuel to the fire to be sucessful. I do Saunders reviews, and I am looking into the Kaplan. This was the first class I used ATI so I was new to it. Thanks for all of your support!
