Nursing Students LPN-RN

I'm in kind of a conundrum (if that's even the right usage of the word). I am currently a LPN and have been for a year in feb. I am going to get my RN its just how and this is where I hit the wall. I currently work at a pediatric office (have been since august) and I absolutely love my job:heartbeat. Of course in an office the scheduling is not as lenient as in a hospital or LTC. :banghead:

My only choice of schooling for my RN (due to finances and school reputation) is the local community college. The recently revamped their admission process to basically 2 times a year (feb. and june for a few weeks each) and you must have all of your pre reqs finished before you even hand in you paperwork. I have one pre req to do and another class that they recommenced taking before.

My dilemma starts with the lack of scheduling options with my current position. I want to stay in peds and the office I work at works extremely close with the Children's hospital in town (we have residents from their program 3X per week) which can open many doors.

-Should I quit my job and work at a place more flexible with my schedule now so I can get my classes done, that I may not like and be miserable

or

-stay at a job that I love, take what classes work around their schedule and risk prolonging getting my RN and possibly having to take some classes over?

To add more: I would not be able to apply until feb of 2010 which gives me until fall at the very latest to make my decision if I want to apply in feb of '10. Also my husband will graduate from medic school in November which MAY POSSIBLY allow me to drop down to part time.

Have you run this by your supervisors at the Docs office? I'd see what they suggest and maybe they can accomodate you. My bridge program wasn't every day of the week. Is there any chance you can clep out of the pre-req they want and apply now? Good luck and please keep us posted.

My job wont accommodate me b/c then they would have to accommodate everyone and everyone wants to go to school. I have to take micro and unfortunately they wont let me clep out of that class.

Sometimes we only are needed to be at certain jobs for a season. I know you enjoy working there but if the company dosent have you as best of thought maybe you should go else where. If I was you I wouldnt let a job keep you away from your education. You are still marketable being a LPN. I'm sure you can find another job. Just imagine how many PED jobs you can be granted when you get your RN. You dont want to prolong your dreams of being a RN if you dont have too. With more education comes better jobs. Wish you luck and good for you for going towards your RN.

Would you want to stay where you are when you graduate from RN school? That should answer your question, as with our careers, we have to look at the big picture to make the difficult "small" decisions. You obviously have something bigger in mind, or you wouldn't need to get your RN, so don't let this job hold you back from your reaching your goals. I'd be totally honest with you employer, as you never know till you ask. But, don't let this job hold you back from your RN plans if that's what you want. I'd think if you did, you'd feel a lot of regret in 5 years or so.
