whether you're about to be in your first semester of your program or your last, what are your plans? what things are you going to change, or what new things are you going to try out? what classes are you taking?

i thought this would be a neat thread, i am always interested in what others are doing or changing on this site, it's a good way to get insight and get to know our fellow lpn students here. :)

i just got accepted into my program today...meaning lots of change is coming! i am not even sure what is going to be changing or how much change there is going to be, but i know there is going to be some adjusting.

for starts, i am on a tight budget right now, so instead of spending a little over $300 for my textbooks, i've already rented them for 125 days. let me tell you...i just saved $111 by doing that! it took me a bit to decide who i wanted to rent from.

as far as changing, i know i'll be spending a lot more time at the library after school than i have been during pre-reqs. it's the quietest place for me to be...my home definitely isn't it.

i start my program on this coming monday and i'll be taking:

alhs 1060

pnsg 2010

pnsg 2030

pnsg 2035

Specializes in NICU( RN), Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.

I don't have my list yet, I get it tomorrow. I'll post it on here once I get it though. I think your pnsg classes are practical nursing right? But what does the alhs stand for? What books does your program use? Once again congrats on getting in.

I look forward to seeing your list, maybe we may have the same books for a few classes so we can help each other when we need it on a more clear level! :)

ALHS stands for Allied Health Services and yes the rest stand for Practical Nursing. ALHS 1060 is Diet and Nutrition by Lutz, PNSG 2010 is Henke's Med-Math Calculation Dosage, PNSG 2030 is Nursing Fundamentals and PNSG 2035 is NF Clinical, which use Mosby's Diag/Lab Test Reference book by Pagana and Davis's Drug Guide for Nurses by Deglin!

And thank you for your kinds words! :)

I was pre-nursing last semester and was accepted into the LPN program for Spring semester, which starts next week! I have a full course load, I'm taking 5 classes: Nursing Fundementals, Nursing Perspectives, Pharmacology I, A&P I, and Nutrition. I already got my books, we had 14 to get this semester! Craziness. I also already bought all my supplies, such as my blood pressure cuff, penlight, and all that good stuff. I'm a little nervous, I hear so many students last semester talk about how difficult these classes were, but I'm also ready to just jump in and get things started too.

I, too, plan on studying at the library after class. My home isn't the best environment for studying either.

WHEW!! Ok so first day..... craziness!!! I have six.. Yes SIX chapters to read by tomorrow in fundamental and med surg, need to have chapter 1-5 in dosage calc done by Friday because yup!! We have a test. Also have a paper on nursing theorists due Friday as well. Did I mention 6 more chapters to read tomorrow night!?!?Icahn honestly say, so far, that I LOVE my first instructor. She helped develope the wound care department at a major hospital here and said that there are 90 day preceptorship spots available!! So my fingers are crossed. I will be in lecture from new until July 1 then full force in clinicals. We don't do any CNA work like some schoos start students off at, they say because since its a pre-req for the program it's not needed. So we will have our own CNA at clinicals. We will startff with 1 patient and as the weeks go by, we will each have 6 patients to ourselves!!! Then when we go to med-surge start it all over again. So, 5 weeks in LTC then 9 weeks in med-surge then 90 days with preceptor. Who is excited?!?!!?? I Am!! But gotta go read my chapters. Ttyl!!

6 chapters...wow! I know you're going to be busy, but I guess that's nursing school for you. Now I am prepared to be facing the same readings. I am getting my books Friday, so I may use the weekend to get cozy with some of them and try to break them in. I can't wait! Good luck on your dosage calc test! I know you'll do great, as well as on your paper. I know you're so excited! I can't wait for the first day of class! I also kind of love the way your program is doing clinicals. Mine mixes them in with the entire semester each term, while as holding them off for last, that way if you worked your butt off, you can kick ass and take names, instead of feeling so shy. That's my biggest concern is clinicals right now. I know I will be fine once I get through my first day and see what it's like, but it will be my first experience in a healthcare setting in a learning aspect...this is me getting my feet wet. I know I'd have a lot more confidence if I had obtained my CNA first, but I'm so happy where I am now! One of my friends also got accepted, so we will definitely be helping one another! So excited! Again, good luck on Friday and for the rest of the semester girl!

ok!! so the five weeks we have nursing fundamentals ( my instructor says we will finish that book in 5 weeks..yeah right!) and med calcs. The next five weeks Pharmacology and Med-Surg then Med surg,Parent-child nursing, and Legal/ethical issues, professional issues, then the last five weeks prior to summer break and clinicals more pharm,med-surg and skills lab. I put the hours of each class we have. The adults in acute care is my schools name for med-surge. We also have 160 hours for preceptorship. Im hoping i get paired with a wound care nurse!

I have about 6 more weeks until I start Level 2. I'm on winter break right now and go back monday, but what I'll definately be changing is my "putting it off until tomorrow". A bunch of level one was stuff I already know about since I've been a cna for awhile so I got kind of lazy. Kicking up gears though! OH and be more organized=]

Putting it off until tomorrow or until later is something that I am going to have to work on as well. Last semester was a pretty big struggle with that. I don't live in the best house for studying, so I kept putting it off until everyone went to bed, or until it was calm around the house so that I could actually focus, and by then I should have been in bed hours ago, so I jeopardized my sleep and I never was able to study the way I needed to, this time I am determined to spend 4 hours a day at the library if I have to, to get things done. Definitely something I'm changing. It's so stressful to wait until tomorrow, or until the last minute to do something.
