This IS nursing school!

There are some in my class that didn't realize it was going to be so much work. I guess they aren't on allnurses lol. We are on our3rd day and we have our first 2 tests tonight. Tests everyday next week (2 on Wed). My Dad said, "If it was easy, everyone would do it."

You sound just like me when I was in my LPN program. I was scared to death to fail a class because that mean's you have to wait six months before you could go and retake that class...not only just that class but have to redo all the other classes that came with that term.

There was this guy in my class who was in the Army but was on the reserve after being an active medic after X amount of time. Anywho, since he'd been to Iraq and all and thought he knew everything, he didn't study and that bit him in the butt. He still refused to study because for some reason it was below him because of his background that he would study off of my notes and another students notes...and that's how he made it through the LPN program. (I made dean's list the whole time I was there, so freaking hard and I had no life) Funny thing is, it really bit him good in the end, he failed his NCLEX. I think in a way it was a good thing. I wouldn't want him to be my nurse. I mean, he cheated his way through school, and he lacked the inner makings of becoming a nurse. I felt like this was something for him to do to give him a higher rank or something. He also mentioned he had a choice between doing this or PA. Oh, and he also had this mindset that he was invencible and could never die. He gave me so many headaches during my 11 months of school.

10 months is a very fast program. A&P was a pre-req for our program which was 16 months long. When I was in school I did my fair share of venting about the amount of school work, but I made it through. Its not productive to spend too much time whining about the workload. Good luck with school, Im sure you will do fine as long as you continue to have a good work ethic.

Those student don't realize how many men and woman would love to take their place. Getting into Nursing school isn't easy. I am literally studying my rear off to get A's in my pre-req's so I can even get into a program.

My suggestion would be to not even worry about them. Just keep focusing on you and your studies. As my Dear Grandmother used to say "Everything comes out in the wash"

Thanks everyone it's just annoying. We had two tests this week. A&P and Fundamentals. I got a 100 on both. I also studied a ton, read the chapters, did the study guides, and I study on my lunch break. The quizzes help me to know what to focus on, so I go home and study that.

It just makes no sense to me. If you don't like your grades, don't complain... do something about it. Don't go out and party and then come and tell everyone, or right after a quiz say you did terrible and then not study for the test the next day.

I think I did the opposite. I expected the absolute worse, and I am finding it a lot easier than I thought it would be. I know every program is differant, but my school, as of right now, seems to be making it so easy for us. I just finished my second week and we do not have our first test until next Thursday, and the teacher says it will only be 30 questions. We have had no assignments due yet. Our first assignment is also due next Thursday, and they are only a few things out of the book, which they are not even going to grade. They just want you to do them. I am not saying I just go to school and do nothing else. I have been studying on my days off, but it has been nice so far. I am sure it will not stay like this though. I am expecting it to get a lot harder.

I just finished my second week, and I actually have been doing homework on the weekends and getting as much of it done as possible then. I have been doing it that way because I still am working part-time and work nights usually after school until about 8pm. For that reason it is hard to say how much time I spend studying since I have been doing it all then. I would say maybe two to three hours (especially the night before an exam) for each class. And that is including homework (such as reading) and doing study guides/review questions and looking over my notes for class. But it depends on the week, last week we had at least one quiz every day, and we had two tests. Next week we have a quiz everyday and four tests, so this next week will have more study time. I'm about to start my 4th week on Monday. I'd say I spend at least 2 hours every night reading & studying, and on the weekends, I study a lot more -- around 3+ hours on Saturdays after work, and pretty much all day Sundays. So far it's paying off; I scored 97% on our first test, and 99% on the second.

I don't mean to burst anyone's bubble but the first module is a breeze. There's a point in nursing school where 4.0 students stop caring about their grades and just feel lucky they passed. If you can pass med surge with NO fails, holy crap, you certainly have brag rights! But really, tests and quizzes aren't just about knowing the material. A lot of the time, they're all situational questions and require critical thinking. The reason why they quiz and test you so much is because they want you to learn test taking strategies. Once you've got that down and know how to answer correctly - even if you don't know the answer - then that's when you know you're ready for the NCLEX
