Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

Updated:   Published

hi guys... I new to the board and I have to take the tabe test to get into the lpn program that I interested in. if there's anyone who has taken this test or have any information on this test would advise me on what study guide to get or how hard is this test. I was told in order to pass you have to be at a 6 grade learning level. currently I am doing my require classes for the RN program; but I decided to going into lpn and then go back for my RN. I am just kind of nervous about taking this test. I am schedule to take the practice test on April 24th, 2008. any information would greatly be appreciated.

did u apply for the same program? boe lpn

I will be going to TECO in Kissimmee

its really not that bad

I just took the TABE test yesterday and found out my scores this morning. I got 12.9 in everything except for the 25 question/10 minute math section, I scored slightly lower. Before the test I went to this link:

http://www.testprepreview.com/tabe_practice.htm. It gave me a practice test in each section. I have always been really good at math.... I just suck at the stuff you'll never use..... or at least I won't being a LPN, RN, or CRNA. I will never need to find the Area or circumference of someone's blood lol. Now is this test hard? Well I almost walked out because they give you only TEN minutes to complete at 25 question math section. And YES while some of the questions were "what is 2 - (-7)", Some also made you think. That's where the pressure really turned on. I am a deep thinker and I think too deep into the equation when the answer is right in my face. We weren't given a calculator. My advice:

-Know how to find percentages of things

-Know how to divide fractions

-Know your integers (there was a few questions of putting the integers in order from least to greatest... which is simple but could be tricky if you aren't paying close attention. obviously -5 would look like a larger number than 1 if you aren't pay close attention..... you'll never see that negative sign.

-take the practice tests for each section at the website I posted above.

English portions:

Reading sections... and then there is usually a word that was used somewhere in the paragraph. Question will read like this "When the paragraph said 'She made such a rational decision', what did they mean by 'rational'? Then they will give you four options.

On most tests, two are obviously wrong while 2 are obviously the better choices. Well, I SWEAR on this test, it was like all 3 were obviously wrong and the right one stuck out like a sore thumb. I didn't even read half of the stories! I read the questions first, then went back to search for the answer.

They also had a spelling section.. which i LOVE to spell..... but it had words like Discreet, experience, stationery, and that's all i can remember for now.

They also had questions in math about Volume, Area, Ratios(with a pie chart), a census chart with questions about the chart and percentages.... and many more.

OOO One suggestion...... I don't know if this is on every test, but it was definitely on mine... and I was almost dumbfounded when I saw this.... but then I wiped off the dust on my brain and my memory slowly came back. go to google.com and type in library card. or Card catalog. They showed a picture of a card.... with the information about a book, amount of pages, types of print, when written, by whom. They asked what the call number meant(The dewey decimal number). Then other simple questions that can easily be read. But I was like wow I don't go to the library, I haven't even seen one of those cards in over 12 years lol.

All in all, I thought it was a very easy test.... although nerve racking in certain areas! lol. Yes in school I was in the gifted and talented accelerated classes, from 3-8th grade. But in high school I was lazy so I took college courses. I was still lazy so I never did any work and failed everything and went to summer school every year. I hated high school and couldn't afford summer school(private high school) so I just stop going to school a few weeks before graduation and got my GED. I consider myself bright and intelligent but I'm not a genious. If I can pass this test anyone can.

Best of luck! Pray to God and He will guide you to what is right!

God Bless!

The TABE test isn't at all difficult to pass. I scored 12.9 in all areas except reading, I don't know what happened but I scored only a 11.1 in that area. The school that I am applying to requires a 11.0 in each area, but overall it's not hard. Good Luck!

Hey Morgan :)

The TABE test was very basic. Most of what was on there is taught in middle school. I'm sure you'll do fine. If anything, brush up on your basic math (converting percentages, fractions, etc.). Good Luck.

I would love to get the practice test if you still have it for the TABE test, I will really help me a lot. Thank you so much!
