This doesn't sound like something the nurse would do. Once I graduate, I plan on working for a plastic surgeon. Basically, nurses working in PS offices take vitals, perform the role of a scrub tech if surgery is performed in the office, do assessments, and "sit-in" for consultations. You can certainly educate the patient on the procedure, but initially that should be the role of the PS, not the nurse. It sounds odd to me that they are looking to give you a percentage. Are they expecting you to persuade the patient into surgery? Just don't do anything you don't feel comfortable doing. Good luck.

I did most of my Peds rotation at an afterschool program for behaviorally challenged children. Thankfully, we did one day at a pediatric facilty-- that was an awesome learning experience. I know the Health Occupations Coordinator at my school has had a difficult time trying to find hospitals that will allow us to come in for rotations. We did, however, go to a hospital for Maternity, and may of us had the opportunity to witness a live birth. For Psych, we also went to a hospital. We're starting Med-Surg now, and thus far we have nowhere to go for clinicals. My instructor mentioned that we may have to go out of state. :-/ Hopefully not! It's not uncommon for classes to do Peds at Day Care. I have heard of it, but how much can you possibly learn there? I wasn't too thrilled about where I went for Peds. I honestly felt like i was doing Psych all over again. Hopefully your coordinator is able to find somewhere else for your class to go. But whatever is decided, make the best of it... and always get in there and learn. :) Good luck to you!

Hey Morgan :) The TABE test was very basic. Most of what was on there is taught in middle school. I'm sure you'll do fine. If anything, brush up on your basic math (converting percentages, fractions, etc.). Good Luck. Dee

hello everyone! thanks so much for your replies! jensmom- :ancong!:and thank you so much for sharing your experience :) tiffany- nice to meet you! yeahp :) my assignments are complete... i just started reviewing them to refresh my memory. it is just impossible to retain all that info! i actually live on the jersey shore... im about 15 minutes from the ocean... i know im absolutely crazy for traveling all the way out to westampton... but there's a 2 year waiting list for the lpn program in my county. to0o0o long for me!! hopefully, you dont have to travel as far. :) i wonder if i have met you? did you attend the uniform fitting and book pick-up? mrsjersey- congrats to u as well! hopefully i will be able to offer you some advice when the time comes :)

With all the New Jersey folks on this page, I'm really surprised that there's no thread for BCIT LPN students... So... I figured I'd start one... I'm going to be attendting BCIT's Westampton campus starting February 2009 in persuit of becoming an LPN... and I'm super excited!! I've always wanted to be a nurse.... and I'm just thrilled that I'm actually on my way to starting my career. I know there's a lot to learn... and I'm really looking forward to the challenge. Anyone else attending BCIT's Westampton night program??? I'd love to hear from you!!! Or maybe you attended BCIT and have a story or experience to share??? I hope I see some posts ladies and gents!
