How to study and survive LPN school.

A good start would be to figure out what type of learner you are and proceed from there. Are you a visual, auditory, tactile, or kinesthetic learner? If you do not know the answer to this question, many quizzes on the internet will help you figure it out. Good luck to you.

Ditto to commuters post! I am an auditory and kinesthetic learner. Some people watch me study and presume I'm visual. I'm not. Charts and pics don't help me unless I can put the chart/ pic into words.

In Lvn / LPN school, I drew simple pics to help me understand concepts.

I touched my body parts as the related to the topic.

I explained concepts out loud to my kid.

I compared concepts to people I knew in real life with the same diagnosis.

I asked people with experience with the dx to explain it to me.

I used google and YouTube to find explanations of the disease process or concept.

HTH!

Hello, I was a LPN student at a vocational tech school. I failed Intro to Med-Surg Nursing, which was level 2 in my program . I plan to repeat the course this April. I do remember there are some questions that will be basic, and others will be scenarios. The math should just be a review of what you have been already taught. If there are classifications of meds, from my experience it is all fair game. Narcotics and heart meds are always stressed. Try to remember what your teachers repeated, there are always 2 or more questions from lectures. Above all, think POSITIVE! Believe in yourself, don' t let stress and anxiety interfere with your focus and concentration. That was my downfall.Breathe.Your going to do fine. Good luck!

Thanks for your reply. I am a auditory, tactile learner. I just have learn how to use them effectively in critical thinking. That's my downfall. I really appreciate your input. God bless.

One more study suggestion for auditory learners, such as you, Slycppper4u:

I utilize YouTube to reinforce concepts. Specifically, songs related to a particular issue and "Simple Nursing" and "Remar"s free nursing videos.

I don't know how I got through LVN/LPN school without these resources!

I typically play the videos through my phone in the car or while getting dressed.

I haven't paid for the subscriptions as there are plenty of free videos on YouTube!
