OKay here's my situation. I am 26, I have two kids under 3. I finally figured out that this is what I want to do with my life but it's a really bad time. Child Care is so expensive. I will not be able to start an lpn program for another year or so. Do you think it is stupid to start studying on my own now? I printed out medical term papers, etc. that I can look over and try to memorize. I also started brushing up on my math skills. Does anyone have any books or websites that will help me learn alot about nursing?

I think it's a very good idea to do all the things you mentioned. The more you know going in can't hurt. Hang in there once you get in, it'll be hard, but you can do it. I graduated in February, I had a 9 month old then and my husband was deployed, you'll make a way. Congratulations on your decision, best of luck to you!

If you have not already taken an A&P (anatomy and physiology) course, I would purchase a used A&P textbook and start from there. After all, you cannot fully begin to comprehend the disease processes, without possessing an understanding of the body parts and the manners in which they function. I purchased a used A&P book online for $29, when new A&P books cost $176 at my college. In other words, I would start studying the A&P well before you start the LPN program. Since you'll likely be studying it independently, visit A&P websites for clarification if you do not understand something. Good luck!
