Hello... I know that when i was in school... my last quarter our teacher told us to buy the Comprehensive Review Saunders NCLEX PN book... I truly wished I bought it at the beginning of the school year... because it is awesome... It actually helped me pass my boards...

Good Luck...

P.S. Get all the sleep you can get now.....:nurse:

i was given a 10-year old copy of a medical surgical textbook that i frequently used as a supplemental textbook during my nursing school days (daze!). you might want to watch second hand bookstores for books like these.

in the case your program doesn't require them there are certain supplemental books that you probably will need to have:

  • taber's cyclopedic medical dictionary
  • davis's comprehensive handbook of laboratory and diagnostic tests with nursing implications or another similar book
  • a current year drug reference book - a number of companies publish them
  • a care plan or nursing diagnosis book, if your program has you writing care plans--not all lpn programs have their students writing care plans
  • i would also get a book about physical assessment for nursing
  • a book about drug dosage calculations, but your program may already have a book like this on their textbook list

when you have time, go to a large bookstore, such as a border's, and look at their section of nursing books. the border's near me has three shelves of the nursing "made incredibly easy" series of books that i can look through to see what they look like before i even consider buying one of them. you might also look through the posts on this forum to see what the lpn students have problems with in their programs to get an idea of what kind of books might be helpful.

you should also go through the sticky threads on these student forums of allnurses

there are lots of weblinks to free information that will be helpful to you as a student. that's why they were posted there. become familiar with them now and bookmark them so you won't need to be searching for them when you are busying studying. when you are in your nursing program and you have questions about your school work, please post them on one of the two forums i listed above. you'll get better responses.

good luck with your nursing program!

I got the Review Saunders NCLEX PN book at the start of my school year. It helped me study for tests and prepared me for the NYCLEX. I have also heard great things about Kaplan.

Thanks for the responses. Im just trying to gather all the info as soon as I can, before going to school! I have some amozon.com gift certificates, so I may as well use them for the books! Thanks.
