Hello I'm a nursing student who's been suffering with social anxiety my whole life. Clinicals are a month away and it's terrifying me. After reading some of the horror stories on here there's no way I'm gonna handle it. I know I will mess up I know myself well. I mess up in lab all the time. :( Anxiety is ruining my life why can't I be confident like everybody else in my class. Is there any hope? Should I just give up save myself from embarassment?

First, have you officially been diagnosed with social anxiety? Have you discussed your social anxiety with a mental health care provider or licensed therapist? He or she can help you develop strategies to deal with the anxiety. You are not the first nursing student to have anxiety and doubt about clinicals.

I saw a therapist last year they did diagnose me. I went because I was getting denied jobs Im bad at interviews and holding a conversation with people. She said people like me suffer from a chemical imbalance. She noticed my shaky hands my constant stuttering, unable to hold eye contact she knew it was social anxiety. They strongly suggested id go on meds but I backed out bc of the side effects. Now I regret it. I'm scheduled to see a therapist Wednesday. Nursing was what I've always wanted to do but this anxiety is holding me back from succeeding. I dread lab days because I feel like an idiot. I guess you can say I'm slow.

I think it is a good idea to see a therapist and take the meds they suggest. I ended up going a therapist all during nursing school. Helped me a lot when I had some situations that in creased anxiety, some of which I made the decision to get the LPN even though I was in ADN classes. I am not working on my ADN as I have shown myself I can do it.
