Hello,I will be starting nursing school Nov 28th,2005.I am very excited, and can not wait.Could someone help me with some tips on what I should do at the beginning of my study to help me out?

Hi David,

There are only 2 schools in the Buffalo area that offer LPN classes one is Erie 1 Boces (a one year program) and the other is Trocaire College( 9 month program). I went to Boces, however they are strict with grading and attendance. You can only miss 28 Hours of class after that you are out, and you also have to maintain a 90 average in math, all the other coorifices you have to have a 75. there is an entrance exam every Wedesday at their walden avenue location. the cost is $10. they also have financial aid and your tuition includes your board fee and 1 year of licensure. Let me know if you need anymore info :)

Hi David,

deciding to attend nursing school, whether it be RN or an LPN school is certainly a big move that requires a lot of dedication and time. Your being a CNA first is a good step, because this will give you some insight into the medical field. I was a CNA first, then LPN, and currently I am in an RN program and due to graduate in May. I have learned valuable pieces to the nursing puzzle along the way. If it is possible though for you to just apply for an RN program rather than an LPN program I would. Take care, and good luck

Welcome to allnurses! Good luck in school when you get in.

Suebird :p

hi, i went to Orange/Ulster BOCES..our Pharm/Calculations exam required 100% to pass and 75% to pass the rest of the units...same with 28 hours missed class time and u are out. our tuition DID NOT include the licensure fee and board fee. this school is in middletown/goshen, ny.

Oh really. I think that each division of Boces has their own setup. How much was your tuition and how long ago was it that you attended? We didn't really have intense pharmacology lessons which sucks, and we barely had any in PN II. I was praying that I did not get and Pharm on my boards because of this. The only coorifice we were expected to maintain a high average in was math (90%) and pharm wasnt calculated into that grade, pharm was separate.

hi...we didn't have an actual seperate math unit/course..it was "all-in-one" with the Pharm unit with a seperate exam for "Pharm Calculations" in which a 100% was needed to pass and u were given 3 tries to get a 100%.

our tuition was about $7900 plus uniforms, lab-packs, and books that totaled about another $500. the course was 10 1/2 months long.

what was your tuition and course length?

Oh yeah ours was different. The tuition was only 7200 and that included books, 1 year of licensure and our board fee. The uniforms were $200, but my sponser paid for those. Our coorifice was 1 year. I wonder why your was so different. How long ago was it that you attended. I just Graduated this past October.

Hello and welcome! We are so glad to have you here!

I am not sure about schools in Buffalo because I live on the other end of NYS. But I am currently in PN school and I love it! I know I could of gone for the RN first-but I really like where I am at with this and know that there is nothing wrong with baby steps.

The course load is tough. There is so much information in so little time. It goes by fast though and it can be done! Clinicals are the absolute best part!

Some of my adivce would be to pick a school that you will be comfortable with. Check out their NCLEX pass rates, amount of clinical time..etc.

Good luck with your journey and visit us here at allnurses anytime!
