Is LPN class worth of 23K?

Hi, I am thinking to be a LPN as a second career. I'm on the wait list at the near by community college. It has 2year wait list. There is also a private LPN school at 23K. I don't want to wait that long.. but also afraid to spend more than 20K for the program.

Is there many job opportunutis as a LPN and private school is worth of money?

Do it if you want to start your career right away. I just started my private LVN school this week and everything is going great. By November, I will be done and get ready to try to get into a RN program since I already have my prereq's done for the RN route. I made two attempts for the RN program, and two attempts for the LVN at my community college, and I never got in. Limited space and seats, and up to 400 applicants for the RN program and 200 for the lvn can really put you in a spot that makes you want to quit. This is all in Northern Cali. Thas why I found a private school that will take me in and I can focus on the RN program while I am making $19-24 an hour. Go for it...most private lvn colleges are around $20k-26K. Go ahead and wait if you want to test your luck. Get ahead and get it done, there are over 50,000 jobs for LVN's in cali, and I will fill at least on spot when I am done.

You have to assess your particular situation and decide if it's right for you. I am in a 1+1 program meaning that we have to become LPN's in order to do go on to the RN portion of the program. We may leave the program after year one and stay LPN's if we want too but it's up to us. So if I leave my school after year one I will have spent $19,500 to become an LPN. Some would say I was insane becuase the City University of New York has a ton of CC and 4 year schools where you can do LPN or RN for a fraction of that cost. The thing is that since it's inexpensive to go to CUNY school's to do nursing everyone wants in!

I tried it that way in the 90s and never made it through nursing school. Instead I graduated with a BA in another field and am now back at scratch with this nursing business. Now I could have gone for a 2nd degree BSN but again...cost and distance of these schools from my home made me choose otherwise.

Also, CUNY LPN is 18 months...I will be done in 11. That is an extra 7 months that I would spend not making money.

My school is fully accredited and we have some pretty amazing resources. When I went to CUNY the science labs were never well stocked, we didn't have models and the films were old as dirt. My current program has tons of resources.

Right now I am at a school that is expensive but I did not have to do any pre-req's, no waiting list, and it's less than 10 minutes from my home so I am not being worn down with a lengthy commute. It works for me and my family.

However, the plus side to going to CUNY is NO DEBT when you graduate and that is something to consider. I just can't see myself waiting years to get into a program. I got sick of being put off year after year by all of CUNY's red tape. Everyone who is trying to get in has an excellent GPA and great scores on their entrance exams.

Check the New York forum. Sometimes you will see the same people semester after semester trying out for CUNY schools and not getting in.

Yes, I will have a lot of loans once I graduate but I have formulated a plan to apply for loan forgiveness. If that does not work I will get my BSN and then join the Army nurse corps.

Btw, New York has a ton of well paying jobs for LPNs so it's the worth the expense to. If your state does not pay LPNs well or has limited work opportunities then you should reconsider.

Reason it out even if it means writing a pro and con list on a piece of paper.

You are an LPN regardless of what school you graduated from in the end. In my opinion, NO WAY would I pay that much for an LPN program.

my sis has been waiting in the rn program for 2 years. after the 2 years she decided to take lvn in a private school after 2nd term in the lvn, she got a letter from the cc for the rn. she decided to quit lvn and go for the rn. she still have a loan but they said she can pay it after she is done in her rn. Well she said that here 2 terms in the lvn is worthy co'z its kinda help her in her 1st semester in the rn program. she gonna be in her 2nd semester this spring.

Wow! I did not pay near that much for ADN, BSN and MSN combined. Seems high to me. How many years would it take to pay back a loan?
