Jump Start with studying?

Hello I start my lpn program at Traviss and I wanted to get advice on what should I try to get a jump start on learning a&p, pharm, dosage calculations? Anything?

I would look at medical terminology and familiarize myself with generic and trade names of the top 100 medications. Also look at Maslows hierarchy of needs! Before you start get a NCLEX-PN book to go by as you go through your different units in school. I have the Saunders NCLEX-PN 5th edition. I have been reading it and already learning alot of not NCLEX style questions work. Good Luck :)

Definitely study a&p and med term. Med term is the base for learning terms throughout your nursing career. If u kno the meanings of word parts then u can figure out what the word means and how to pronounce them. Also a&p is a pre-req to med surg, both which are what nursing students call monsters. Be sure to read read read and then read some more. Good luck in ur program

Thanks you guys for helping all of us. I have a question to ask..How in-depth is the A&P course in a LVN program? Any specific content that we need to have a clear and deep understanding? I'm all for gaining knowledge

Also, can you please give us brief details on the med terms we need to focus and study?

Thanks I didn't think about studying medical technology I think I have done flash cards from a while ago. I think that will help a lot.

Learn lab values too; pharmacology; nursing process; drug calculations; start reading funds and med/surg now too if you can.

But definately A&P! Do you have to do micro for your program too? Its difficult. I had all mine done for pre-reqs. All I got left are nursing classes..no extra classes..thank god!
